M Cafe de Chaya (Melrose)

A friend took me to this fancy deli place and said it was good. The designy interior and the delicate prepared food displayed behind the deli glass window made the place seem really promising! Plus it’s supposedly opened by Gwyneth Paltrow’s former personal chef blah blah…not that I care about the “Celeb” factor but it sounds like the food can’t be that bad right? WRONG. I got the Carolina-style Barbequed sandwich and my friend got the Panino Tuscano (forgot to take pix). My gosh both were HORRIBLE! I wasn’t aware that this is a “veggie” place, I thought it’s just supposedly to be healthy and organic? The fake meat were just too yucky, and the sauce was not good either. The side was Moroccan salad and it was hard and not fresh. My friend also got a squash soup and it tasted bad as well (no squash taste, too salty). If I had known that this is a vegetarian place I would just stick to their salad which is probably good. My friend couldn’t even finish his sandwich and proposed us to have a 2nd lunch somewhere else ^^;;; I got a sesame dome which I hope could redeem this lunch, urrgghhh it tasted so gross! No sesame flavor whatsoever, in fact it had NO taste! I wish I got the more normal dessert (i.e. raspberry chocolate cake) instead which probably can’t go wrong (errr…I hope). Apparently all the desserts in this place is “no egg, diary or refined cane sugar”…to make this experience worst, the food is pricey. The sandwiches were $11 each, desert was $6….urggh, will never go back.

    GAHH I’m back from Mexico! I don’t want to come back at all! XO It felt so long, as if I’ve been away for more than a week. The mansion we stayed in was astonishing! I’ll type up my report later.

    This celeb chef vegan place is very like one of my old entry

    Haha, Gwyneth Paltrow is so skinny, which implies her cook cannot be that good. ^^;;

    The sesame dome with that 2 sticks….reminds me of those buns you pray with in chinese Wong-Tai-Sin temples. ^^;;;

    Welcome back Freda! Can’t wait to see your report!!

    I think there’s “chaya” in the name for pretentious cultural asian flair.
