The Kitchen Club (NYC: Nolita)

By in 03: NYC, Favorite Food Entries

New Year’s eve at Manhattan…there’s the Time Square craziness that we avoided like plague, and most restaurants had a prix-fixe menu. While walking in Nolita earlier in the day, we saw this lovely and intimate French restaurant (with Asian flair) and liked the $85 3 course menu very much. We walked in while they were in preparation and asked for reservation. Turns out there is one open table left at the night. Lucky!

The owner’s cute little French bulldog, I found out later that he’s the mascot for the restaurant~ 😀 Noted the pears on every table, it’d the key ingredient for the entire course.

Appertizers: Watercress Pear G Gorgonzola Salad and choice of Kumamoto Oysters or…

Chanterelles Mushroom in Reduced Creme Sauce. The seseme bread taste like Chinese steamed-wheat bread, even the serving plate is those blue frame China. Very good.

Main Course: Deer with hukleberry preserves. So good~ The sides are amazing too, esp. the sweet potato gratin with black truffle!

Quail with Foie Gras, there’re pears underneath the quail. Very good! The dessert is Poached Pear in Red Wine with Chocolate Mousse, so heavenly!

It has a sake bar called Chibi’s Bar right next door, with the little bulldog as logo. The owner came by and chat with us. She told us the night was also her lovely restaurant’s 15th Anniversary! Double celebration~

    Of all the fruits used to cook in meal, I love Pear the most~ So that’s why the menu seems attractive to me because it has Pear in all of them~ *q*

    Oh this is your NY’s eve dinner!! Envy~!!! ^^;;;;
    85 per course – not bad value for an occasion like that.
    And you had deer(I prefer calling it venison…less cruel ^^;;;) and quail!!
    Is it your first time eating that?
    How did you like the wild taste? ^^;;

  4. Joan says:

    I forgot how to spell venison ^^;; and indeed this is my first time. This quail taste a bit like chicken (dark meat chicken). ^^:;; The deer is delicious~~

    AHHHH I moved out of the place I was staying (too far to commune and dangerous at night) to this producer’s apt. in Manhattan, my gosh it’s right at Nolita and next to this restaurant, it’s crazily amazing nice location! The apt. was very tiny though, but who cares if you can live right AT the coolest area?

    Freda, that’s great!! You should definitely try their normal dinner or lunch at weekends!

    I’d definitely eat cheaper and cheaper ^^;;;
