Morongo (Cabazon)
 On Sat I went to Morongo, a new casino+resort+spa at Cabazon's Indian reservation area that's about 1-1/2 hour drive away from my house. It's definitely a closer fix for Las Vegas since it promised to offer Vegas-like quality hotels and casinos, unlike most other cheap crappy Indian reservation's casinos. After being stuck in traffic due to a severe car accident on the freeway, the four of us (Me, Yan and two other freelancers) arrived Cabazon at around 4:00 pm. We shopped at the outlet mall near the casino for about 2 hours ^o^ (lots of great deals! Especially the Barney's New York outlet and Cosmetic Company where I got these sold-in-Asia-only Estee Lauder skincare products for much cheaper price). We arrived the casino at around 7, the parking area is really huge that we had to take shuttle bus to get to the hotel.
   We got really hungry so immediately we went for food. There were 2 nice restaurants, one is an Italian place at rooftop and the other is a steakhouse. At first we were thinking to try the steakhouse, but then we saw these very dress up people walk in there, juxapose to us who dressed very crappy, T-shirt jeans and all. ^^:; So we just went for the cheap cheap plebians-friendly buffet instead. Well it's not exactly really "cheap" since it still cost like $27 per person, but at least that covers everything from drinks to dessert. The interior is very bland with very ugly lightings. The food is not bad actually, well I didn't expect much la...the real purpose is gambling anyways ^^;; There were quite lots of choices indeed, there's the Italian area, the Latin area and even an Asian area (which taste pretty alright, not fake kinds that cheat gwai lo, see pix of 2nd plate: Korean BBQ beefs, Pad Thai, fried rice)...also it was spare rib night. My friends all got a giant piece of spare rib, I'm amazed that they could finish it by themselves. The corn souffle thing (egg thingy in first plate) is quite yummy! In general, everything taste not bad, just rather bland.
  The dessert is alright too, better than many buffets/cake shops in LA at least. And there's quite a variety of choices as well. The Lime tart and fruit tart are the best, it's quite yummy. Coffee cake is pretty good too, it's not too sweet and has rich coffee flavor. They have lots of cookies and rice pudding too, which I didn't have stomach to try. I heard that the dessert chef is from France in fact.
After the buffet it was nearly 9:00 pm and finally we start gambling. ^__^ I've always wanted to try Blackjack since it's the easiest and most fun to play. After really quick tutorial from Yan and others, all four of us hopped on the same table and started playing! I played with $80 while others $100 (the minimum bet is $10). It was a really fun experience. It's definitely more fun to have friends playing next to you so we can chat, clap and cheer for each other. I think most of us got Blackjacks more than once, I've got it at least twice ^-^. We start out losing, then we kept winning (exceed my original $80 at one point). Then we lost again, then won, lost, won... it's funny that whenever I lost till only $10 left, I would always bounce back right away with blackjacks or 2 10s the next round! Yan photocopied from a book that has a chart tells you what to do according to the total # of your card vs the dealer's, it was a pretty good reference guide that we kept referring to shamelessly ^^;; We played at the same table for a long time, probably 2 hours and more. There came at least 4 different dealers. The last dealer guy had too much luck, he kept getting blackjack in ridiculous combinations, we all just kept losing with him. I stopped when I only had $30 left while others played till they lost everything >o<. Then we went to check out the poker room, it's quite scary as all the guys in there seems so serious and shark-like ^^;; When it's midnight, the casino got sooo over-crowded that I'm getting dizzy. There were just way too many people. Every slot machine was taken, there were even lines at some machines! The poker room has a 2 hours waiting list too. At last we tred roulette, for awhile we kept winning as we repeatedly bet on the color "black" (it's either red or black). It's amazing that the ball just kept landing on black! When we felt that we should leave, we just bet all the $ on red for one last time (since there's been too much black already). But then, the ball landed on 0!!! (0 doesn't have a color) >O< WTF!!
I had lots of fun playing blackjack though, I'll definitely play it again next time I go there or to Vegas :D! There was an unhappy incident happened though. One of my friends' wallet got stolen, probably someone picked his pocket while we were playing Blackjack. He went to the security area and found his wallet there, though all the cash inside were gone. Which suck since he just lost $200 at the Blackjack table. Well at least he got his IDs and credit cards back.

Ha I dunno about that...probably there's some kinda regulation. Last year at election, "Arnold" tried to pass the proposition to tax those Indians...

Wow, I never knew that. Criminals can hide in these areas and never get caught then? ^^;;;;

I know I felt so bad for him...he had like $140 in his wallet I think. Not too bad...but still, it always suck to lose $! Yeah Blackjack is totally fun and easy~~ now I know what I can play if I go to Vegas :) Oh Indian reservation area is lands that're owned by Indian (American indian), it's lands belong to them so US government's law doesn't really apply to them. They don't have to pay taxes either. so since the "no gambling" law doesn't apply to them, they usually open casinos since that's the easiest way to make money. So there are lots of very very rich Indians here because of that.
