Typhoon (NYC: East Village)Food 20: NYCI met a freelancer in the office and she showed me around her East Village neighborhood. There is sort of a "Little Tokyo" corner here and lots of authentic Japanese pubs and restaurants. We ate at this Izakaya style pub with her bf! There's another popular crowd waiting outside Izakaya down the street that has a kitschy retro Japanese 60s theme but it's more for tourist and non Japanese. Japanese people go to this one more. Yeah seems like more authentic, or maybe because it's more condense in Manhattan that the rate of finding an authentic restaurant is higher? ^^;; There're still many bad Korean/chinese sushi places here. Freda | January 12, 2006 09:36 AMthe food seems more authentic than what you get in LA? definitely not the usual teriyaki/california roll!! I don't recall ever seeing hokke or sakamushi in CA, so...^^ tomoko | January 11, 2006 09:19 PMUnlike the past fried icecream I had which was just breadcrumb on top, this one has a thin layer of spongecake with tempura crust. Freda | January 11, 2006 06:40 AMWOW the ice cream looks awesome!! donny | January 10, 2006 06:35 AM
