DSC04190.jpgA Canadian guy in our group was denied access into Father's Office (they don't accept any non California license?) so we went inside this seemingly casual Cal-cuisine restaurant called Babaluright next door. Turns out the menu is quite $$ (20+) with snobish attitude.

Yam Fries and Jambalaya ($20): Pineapple rice, andouille sausage, shrimp, red & yellow peppers with grilled ed chicken in saffron tomato sauce. The later sounded a lot a lot more yummy than it tasted. The rice are mushy and soggy, and the sauce was overwhelmingly sour tomato sauce.

My friends' Steak (so-so) and Pasta (very bad). How can you mess up something so simple? Soggy, overcooked, bland tasting.

The waitress never came over to fill our drinks nor check up even once. When we paid the bills with credit card, it took her 20 mins to come back. There were 5-6 other tables when we handed in the creidt card, but when the bill finally came back we were the last table remaining. Perhaps we didn't look like your typical westside yuppies...hence the attitude.

Oh that's what it is...? ^^;; There were some ethnic motifs art all over the place so I wasn't sure what this place is about, other than being, 'Californian' (= we have everything). I think many Americans don't know how to make rice dish properly, why can't they think of pasta, would anyone eat gooey & soggy pasta? And the sauce, sorry to say, is no different from those "Tea Restaurant" tomato rice.

Apparently Jambalaya is "a New World version of the Old World dish paella". Interesting! Too bad it is no good...
