Off Vine (Hollywood)

Food 08: Hollywood

This entry includes two visits.

The restaurant Off Vine does live up to their name. It's a true tranquil haven hidden behind the ever chaotic, noisy and developing sections of Sunset Blvd. near the CNN building and ex-Transformer high rise area. It's a craftmanship house with flowery garden patio seatings. We sat upstairs (like a bedroom space) the first time and at the garden the next. I feel like I was dining at Abbot Kinney.

Good Sesame Bread. My co-worker got the Tuna Nicoise $13.95: fresh Ahi Tuna, huge portion and very delicious. I even enjoyed the boiled red potato (hard texture) very much.

Joan's Farfalle Pasta tossed with Sauteed Eggplant, Red peppers, Olives, Roasted beans & goat cheese. Light tasting, slightly oily and flavorful, love it. I got the Smoked Mozzarella and Chicken Ravioli with a Tangy Apple Mango Chutney. The sauce is almost sour-plum like, very sweet with a ting of fruity sourness, but it's also too dominating (albeit very tasty). The ravioli are chewy and smooth, very good.

DSC04363.jpgThe server highly recommended their soufflé, so we put an order for Grand Marnier Soufflé , it's heavenly! Airy, puffy and moist and rich with custard flavors~

Our second visits.

Special of the day: Lamb Chop $22. I shared the plate with Joan, but the portion is still good for lunch. The bigger piece was perfectly medium rare, very juicy and not musky.

My co-workers' Cornish Game Hen $15.95 and Petit Filet Mignon with a Rogue Fort Cabernet Sauce $19.95. They were satisfied.

DSC04430.jpgOf course we'd get it again. Chocolate Soufflé . So good, so good~

On top of the good food, it's a great lunch retreat from the usual Sunset chaos for those of us who work nearby.

Comments:

Yeah the menu seems unclear what its focus is, typical mixed Californian restaurants ^^;; It's strange that American dining habit are so NOT popular with courses at all...even the supposed French restaurants here...pity. When I was researching eating in Paris, prix-fixe courses way too common (and as I see from your blog so is Japan). That's why you see very few courses/set in my eating out here.

The pasta looks tempting! The meat are so huge portion~. So this place is Italian or French or Californian?? Do they have full courses??

I wish we can only drop by for the souffle too, but they take like more than 20 minutes to bake, so you order along with your meal and by the time you finished it would be ready.
