Dalloyau (Paris: Bastille)

Dallouya one of the those famous 'brand name' Parisian pâtisseries, they go way back to 1802.

We went to the salon at their Bastille location. Upstairs is restaurant. The menu is divided into 'classics' and 'modern'. We went for the classics.

The Opera (1955 version) is PHENOMENON! It's incredibly silky smooth. The combination of the chocolate and coffee buttercream are flawless. The joconde biscuit layer are so good too. I read later that even though they didn't invent Opera, Dalloyau gave its name "Opera" and popularized it.

Faubourg. I admit that we picked it for that beautiful metallic sheen glow on that incrediby shiny surface. It's delicious. Inside is Chocolate Genoise with vanilla and Bavarian cream.

DSC05491.jpgTwo pieces of chocolate came with the tea. They have shops in Japan, and there's a "Opera Ginza" on the mneu.

(btw a heads up: we did not go to Laduree. We passed by, almost went in, but didn't. Strange, strange indeed, I'm still scratching my head.)

I think in paris too only madame go to these pastry salon~ (at least when we were there, there was only an elderly couple ^^;;). Even though Bastille is supposedly a youth/hipster area. The other Dalloyau shops+salon in Paris are at old money/madame area.

From what I read, the reality is that most average Parisienne won't pay for something that they could have get much cheaper in local market/neighborhood bakery. And certainly young people will never hang out at madame area.

In Japan, it is those old brand name cake shop/salon that only obasan go...^^;;; But the cakes you had look really gorgeous!!!

These cakes, esp. the faubourg, are stunningly beautiful *0* ~~~!!! The little gold plate on top are real gold or ^^?
