  1. Went to see ep3….have you guys seen it yet? I know I shouldn’t have kept my hopes up but still, I thought maybe this time, this one last time it will be good, but sadly, truly sadly it was an utter disappointment. The battle scenes/light-saber fighting scenes are so dreadfully long that I was bored out of my wits. That long fight between Obi-wan and the coughing robot…..honestly who cares?! The climax scenes that I do care, e.g. Anakin turning evil(internal struggle almost non-existent), Obi-wan and Anakin rupture(hesitation zero, regrets shockingly short-lived) etc all turned out to be so anti-climatic. Maybe George Lucas’s style hasn’t changed at all, if you try to recall, ep456 involved huge amount of politics, droids, battleships, fluorescent lamp fighting, everything almost businesslike, and the emotion level has always been kept to the minimum level, e.g. no one shed a tear even when your family died, or your home planet got blasted, but nonetheless, the emotion is there you know, affecting subtly, even though no one got teary eyes. But ep123, the structure and the style maybe the same, but the essence and the magic are not there anymore. I don’t know how to put it less abstractly, without going into details and trivial complaints, but actually last night they were showing ep4 on TV, and I was reminded of the scene that really gripped me – Luke looking out to the two suns setting, with a sadness that he is being tied down to a common life, desperate for an alternative future, and the audience is affected with that painful yearning and a sense of excitement that his adventure is going to begin….you know, a few scenes like this definitely wouldn’t hurt to be put into ep123. Kinda depressed that it ended like that. ToT

  2. I didn’t see ep3, remember there were some good buzz when it first opened? I think they were just fanboy were so desperately wanting to like it because this could be the final of all that they probably delude themselves. After awhile, the ‘bad’ words started pouring out from most general audience. Yeah, I remembered that sunset scene in ep4 so well, especially because of the music, that was so tear-jerking and ‘epic’ feeling~ There’s none of that in the prequels. I dont’ thnk i”d ever see this one, to preserve my remaining fondness and respect of the old SW franchise that was once magical and a ‘good’ thing you can tell people how much you enjoyed them (now you always have to clarify “oh not the new ones though~”). How does the audience react in the theater?

    Joan saw War of the Worlds and everyone she went with hated it so much, though she said it was not that bad…^^;;;

  3. oh yeah Freda didn’t wanna see War of the World because she couldn’t stand Tom Cruise. I couldn’t stand him either but I went to see it with friends anyways. I think the first half is pretty good, especially the beginning when it’s quite suspenseful. When the alien first appear to kill people in the town it was quite exciting and entertaining too. Then the film just derail from there. Gosh that whole basement part is soooo overly long and boring. The little girl is so overact. Yeah totally, Tom Curise is sooo unconvincing, I cannot buy that he’s anything other than the “Tom Cruise”. He only has two expressions.

    Totally skipping on Ep3 ^^;;;

  4. F> The audience was, as always, dead silent throughout the whole film. But my friend who went with me thought it was good….the large scale war and fighting pleases guys I guess. I think the special effects got some awards? But…everything looked so fake toy-looking to me…especially, there was one particular scene where Obi-wan parked his vehicle outside Padme’s home and I really couldn’t believe my eyes – it looked sooooooooo fake, as it was made 30 years ago or something!! But I do like how Anakin got maimed and burnt….^^;;;; The lava CG(where Anakin and Obi-wan were fighting on) is so bad though….Oh so it happens that someone asked me what Sci-fi movie I like and I said Star Wars….and I had to add hurriedly, “Oh the OLD one!”.

    J> I know!! The basement part is so pointless!! I think the scene when Tom cruise drives through a crowd who got all violent trying to rob the car, is good enough to emphazise the point and no need that basement scene.

    But really, you guys are really not going to see it??!! Or you will rent DVD later???

  5. btw, the 4 words that I have seen very often in the reviews of EP3 is: “cheesy dialogue, worse acting”. The acting, well, you already know, and the worst dialogue that gave me a goose-bump fit, was this:(c&p from a review)
    Anakin: “You’re so beautiful.”
    Padme: “That’s only because I’m so in love.”
    Anakin: “No, it’s because I’m so in love with you.”
    -o-;;;;;
