Bistro D’arbre (ビストロ・ダルブル)

Cold pumpkin soup. Thin but sweet.

Moussaka. A bit shocked when it came…it looked nothing like Moussaka! ^^;; It was just minced lamb meat stuffed inside a huge aubergine. The aubergine and all the other grilled vegetables were still very raw. Usually I am okay with lamb’s smell but this one smelt a bit too strong. Ratatouille sauce was great though.

So happy when the waitress said there was fresh herb tea…but either they put too little or the mint leaves were not strong flavour enough, even after brewing for quite a while, the tea was still rather tasteless. The environment was so nice though….

Milky Way (ミルキーウェイ)

A family restaurant with the endearing name “Milky Way” which offers a variety of parfaits for all Zodiac Signs(btw I am no fan of horoscope…^^;;). Pisces - which apparently is my sign - sounds boring so I picked Taurus: cheese cream, coffee and vanilla ice-cream, banana, sponge cake, and canned fruits at the bottom. Well it tasted like a normal parfait from any family restaurant…the cookies and the pies were a bit old too. Though the second-floor large window view of the busy flow of Ikebukuro is very nice.

Pork cutlet curry. Okay normal. The pork was not too juicy, the curry was the sweet Japanese kind with onions in it - there was a bottle of chilli oil on the side for adding yourself, which I put a lot. I was expecting a rundown ojisan place but was surprised by the new interior.

Chestnut danish - black sesame paste under the chestnut. Guinea fowl and mushroom sandwich - mushroom are marinated, and mustard spread on the bread. Both are quite good.

Anpan - red bean bun. The usual financier and galette, not very good…

Prego Pacchetto (プレゴ・パケット)

Gnocchi with potato, kidney beans and basil cream sauce. Surprisingly big portion and tasted quite good, though the gnocchi were a bit too big size and I had to cut them in half otherwise the sauce wouldn’t stick enough.

L’assiette Blanche (ラシェット・ブランシュ@白金高輪)

060910 003.jpg060910 006.jpg
Bacon and cheese toast. Marinated sardine and couscous salad.

Roasted duck breast with endive in citrus sauce. Coconut blanc manger in mango sauce. Every dish was very good! The cheapest 3500yen lunch had 3 choices for the main dish but they were all very standard and I had similar stuff many times before, so I picked the main dish from the a la carte menu, which was an extra 1500yen but the waitor said the portion would also be bigger - turned out it was the right choice cos the duck was so tender so soft so juicy and so big! Like my friend said, this place doesn’t have a creative menu to tickle your curiosity but instead the standard dishes are all very refined. The service was fantastic yet there was no service charge!

Sucre Sale (スクレ・サレ)

060909 004.jpg060909 011.jpg

Marinated prawn and octopus salad. Grilled salted belly pork with mustard sauce. Prune tart. The belly pork was so fatty but very juicy and good. The salad and dessert were fixed for the course and both were a bit boring…This place was supposed to be big portion and cheap but I thought the portion and the price were pretty normal. Also….the waitor is a very scary character!! Bald and not smiling and not very polite…and he was staring at us while we were having our salad which made me so uneasy, especially my friend who had never been to a French restaurant in Japan and she was pretty nervous because of him. Luckily more customers came and filled up the place later and we forgot about him. ^^;;
