This Japanese restaurant is inside Ueno Park. Lovely view! Must be amazing during Hanami season.

Hana-kago-zen: translated to “flower basket meal”. It is often said that “Japanese eat with their eyes”. So right on! Taste is secondary, celebrating Japanese aesethics comes first. Most of the pretty things in the basket are veggy and tofu, all cold. Chawanmushi and rice with beans(this is so good) and miso soup are of course hot. Rice and soup are refillable. Will come back for tea and sweets!

  3. So beautiful~ Did you walk/exercise in the park beforehand? (or just go there for the restaurant ^^;;;)
I like the fancy beautiful name for the set, everything is so petit and delicate, like miniature food toys, so unreal~

  4. Just went there for the restaurant. ^^;; But I have been to this park many times before, especially during cherry blossom hanami seasons.

They have other stuff like hotpot, which will definitely taste better but I just went for the look~

  5. Even the website is so elegantly beautifully designed *0*~~~ Some of its vege-friendly dishes look appealing 🙂

The lunch set I had was mostly veggy and tofu, but there was a little piece of salmon in it. ^^;; Surprisingly strict vegetarian restaurants are so rare here, cos Japanese eat a lot of seafood~. A vegetarian guest came to our office last week, and the organizer preparing for the welcome party was scratching his head hard trying to find a restaurant.

  7. Haha yeah it’s super tough to eat strict vegetarian-ly in Japanese restaurants!!! The sauce you dip the soba in, the soup base of just about everything… ^^;;; Often I eat them anyway la!
