0801270121Egg Benedict. I have been wanting to try the Egg Benedict in this place for so long but somehow never got around to it. The quality doesn’t disappoint at all! The best I have eaten so far(not that I’ve tried that many).

There are two branches of this coffee shop in the same area. Only this branch in Azabu-Juban does Egg Benedict, which is only available on weekends and it runs out quickly. We went at around 12 on a Sunday and the place was quite packed but we managed to get seats. When we lined up in front of the counter to get our food, my friend ordered hers first, and when my turn came, the staff told me they had run out of Egg Benedict! My other friend bebind me and I were so devastated - we came especially for it. For about 5 mins not knowing whether to order something else or go someplace else, I tried begging the staff saying that we came a long way just to eat the Egg Benedict here. Then the male staff said that if we could wait for 30mins then he will make them for us. Of course we wait!! So I ordered the corn soup cos I was so hungry, though it took them almost half an hour to prepare the corn soup anyway….The food was so good that it was worth the effort but gosh why is it so difficult to get a bloody Egg Benedict in Japan?! ^^;;;

Chocolat framboise - Chocolate cake with raspberry.
Longchamps Chocolat Noir - Light meringue and chocolate mousse cake with almond and bitter chocolate coating.

This branch is inside Isetan Shinjuku. About 20 mins of queuing for seats on a Saturday.

I like all the cakes except Guayaquil and Tarte aux chocolat which I wish had richer chocolate taste. The Earl Grey tea costs 945yen a pot but it is very diluted, and the house blend tea tasted weird… Was planning to buy the marron confit to take home but the queue for take-out(separate queue for take-out and eat-in) is very long so I just tried one piece inside the cafe.
Menu: 1, 2.

I also bought Seigle auvergnat (orange) from Be and it is absolutely delicious! It has stores in Midtown and Isetan Shinjuku, both are on the same floor as Jean-Paul Hévin.

0802060069マルゲリータ(モッツァレッラ・バジリコ)。 マリナーラ(ニンニク・オレガノ)。
Margherita(Mozzarella and basil). Marinara(Garlic and oregano). Both are 1575yen.

There are only two kinds of pizza available even at dinner time, but the lack of optons doesn’t matter because the pizzas are just amazingly good. I am happy to just eat the wonderfully soft crust on its own. My friends prefer Margherita so we ordered a second of that but I love Marinara just as much.

On the other hand, from the prices of the appetizers, I just couldn’t believe how small the portions turned out to be. Even though they tasted good but they are still totally overpriced. The pizzas are reasonable in price though.

The espresso(with sugar already added) was recommended by the staff who said that it is “creamy”(without cream or milk added) and people who normally don’t like coffee will like it - it is probably good espresso but it is so disgustingly sweet that I gave up after one sip. They don’t have caffe latte or cappuccino, otherwise I would have asked for a cup of hot milk to dilute the “espresso syrup”.

3 of us shared all the food(we ordered 3 pizzas) plus drinks(about 2 glasses each), the bill was 4000yen per person. I will go back for the delicious pizzas but I will remember not to order too many appetizers. They do pizza lunch too so that is probably a good deal.

0801260071茨城チェリーポークの天火焼き、マスタードソース。
Ibaraki cherry pork in mustard sauce. The pork is very soft with thin layers of fat streaked with the meat(marbling) so that each bite is juicy with well-balanced amount of meat and fat. Dessert is pear sorbet and honey ice-cream.

This place is all for meat-lovers! A bit on the salty side but it is okay with me. The chef used to be a boxer apparently(and he does look like one - very friendly guy though!), which explains the meat-centric menu. He was telling us that he always feel sad when female customers can’t finish all the food on their plates(what a waste!) so he was glad that we finished everything. ^^;;;

Only opens for lunch on Saturday; lunch menu is basically the same as dinner menu but only slightly smaller in portions(not small at all). The cheaper lunch course is 2940yen consisting of one appetizer instead of two, but the portion for each dish is a bit bigger. The restaurant is about 10mins walk from Roppongi station. It was just us, and another table of two on the Saturday we went, which got me a bit worried at first. Turned out the food was good!

From the 5250yen lunch course. The cheaper 3645yen course doesn’t include “Yurine wrapped in senbei”, but the rest is the same. Everything is delicious and you can really tell the high-quality of each ingredient. At first I was pleasantly surprised by the large portion(for a high-class washoku place), but unfortunately the Taira-gai appetizer was the only item that was in generous portion - the sashimi was tiny(though very fresh), the rice didn’t fill half of the bowl and not refillable(though absolutely delicious), and the size of the dessert made my friend laugh…..I didn’t drink but my friend did and all the Nihonshu options on the menu were quite expensive. Good food but not the best bargain in town. I guess the posh location contributes to the price too - the restaurant is somewhere between Omotesando station and Gaienmae station. We booked a few weeks in advance so we got the private room to ourselves, which is very nice. Try to avoid the table seats cos they don’t look so comfortable.

Pork cutlet soup curry. The pork is not that juicy but it is nicely deep-fried and good enough when eaten with the curry. Soft-cream is pretty normal.

You can choose four levels of spiciness. Level 1 is a little hot and Level 2 is already quite hot for me. Two kinds of soup you can choose: tonkotsu(pork bone) and tebasaki(chicken wings). I like the richer-tasting pork one better. The rice is refillable.

The original restaurant is also in Jimbocho area, which does soup curry at lunch time, and is an izakaya at dinner time. This branch I go is specialised in soup curry only and opens everyday of the week. Very clean inside and no need to share tables. Location is right next to this curry shop which is more popular though.

Soup curry is originated from Hokkaido and is more about the chunky ingredients than the curry itself. The meat and vegetables here are indeed nice, the curry is not bad too. However as evident from the photos, from my first visit to my last, the amount of vegetables seem to have shrunk….still not a bad lunch place.
