The entrance is quite difficult to spot! Delicious Prosecco.

Amuse is fried Sakura-ebi. Felt like I was eating tempura but it was good.
Appetizer is a few thin slices of really soft and nice chicken breast in anchovy sauce. The sunny-side up fried quail egg on the side is the cutest thing I have ever seen!

Homemade pasta(forgot name) with seafood sauce. Delicious~

Pork stewed in tomato sauce. Italian countryside styled apparently. Taste-wise it is good but the pork itself is a bit too dry and hard. Couldn’t help thinking what a shame it was cos everything had been really good so far. Though my friends who ordered fish as their main dishes said they were good.

My disappointment eased a bit when I tried the petit fours which was amazing especially the polenta cookie, and I was very surprised and immediately uplifted by the high quality of the simple dessert - honey pudding with fruits and nuts. Wrapping up with a nice cappuccino, the lunch was overall satisfying.

Lunch course alone is 4200yen. I had one glass wine, one sparkling wine, mineral water, about 7000yen in total.

94-year-old tea shop specialised in Houjicha. You can smell the tea being roasted from blocks away. First floor sells tea and second floor is a cafe.

Sakura Anmitsu(spring menu). The anko(bean paste), kanten, shiratama(rice flour dumplings), even the syrup are all sakura pink! While the taste is just a normal anmitsu(^^;;;), it sure looks pretty.
Tokujo parfait. It has 3 scoops of ice-cream in vanilla, houjicha and matcha flavour. Shiratama are in matcha and houjicha flavours too.

Take-out houjicha softcream from the first floor.
Speical houjicha Kakigori. It is nice but there is not quite enough ice-cream and anko to finish the big bowl of ice so I asked for an extra scoop of ice-cream and the friendly staff didn’t charge me for that!

Very good value set that includes any parfait of your choice, mitarashi dango and kusa-dango(made with a green herb yomogi) and also green tea. While I was hesitating which parfait to get, the staff suggested the biggest Tokujo parfait with a wink(^^;;). The two skewered dango are very very good.

Kuri(chestnut) zenzai with grilled mochi. This is pretty normal.
Five-colour Kohagi(small ohagi) is just so-so.

(Isehiro)

Famous yakitori place offering yakitori rice bowl at lunch time. The kitchen is partitioned with windows so the smoke(scary amount of it) won’t touch you even if you sit at the counter(though you still smell a bit afterwards).

Chicken broth. Side order “Teba”(chicken wing).

My 5-skewers yakitori-don on the left: sasami(chicken breast), skin, thigh, liver, and meat ball. My friend’s 4-skewers yakitori-don doesn’t include liver. My favourites are skin and thigh!

A friend recommended me this rather obscure wagashi shop and wow I was shocked by the high quality! “Kimishigure”(egg-yolk based) practically melts in your mouth and “Uguisu”(left one) has incredibly soft skin and red bean paste that is smooth and not too sweet. Amazing!

清水 (Shimizu) CLOSED

08060200210704040072
Bagel shop 5 minutes walk from Akihabara train station. Only opened from 11:00 to 14:00 on weekdays and the 1st and the 3rd Saturdays of the month. Haven’t had a chance to try their bagel sandwiches but the bagels are delicious enough to eat on their own. It is a branch of Garden Berries in Chiba which I have visited before.

(Yuki no Panya)

08070800190807080014

0807080018Cute little bakery in Kanda run by two sisters. It is only opened from Tue to Friday and the bread gets sold out very soon after the shop opens at 11:30am. Apparently you can phone to reserve and pick it up before the shop closes at 6pm though I have never tried that before. Sometimes even during open hours, the door is shut and there is nobody there but you can just ring the door bell, speak to the intercom and tell them you want to buy bread and they will open the door for you. The bread is baked using natural yeast. Most of them have nuts, dried fruits and cheese.

Came back for the holiday lunch buffet(see tag for the last visit). Appetizers are great as ever.

Main courses are chosen from the menu and are served when you are done with appetizers. I had the Grilled Australian Rib eye beef in ox-tail sauce, with celery root in remoulade sauce on the side. My friend had Grilled pork loin, mashed potato and cabbage in mustard sauce. While the main dishes aren’t as good as the appetizers, they are fairly decent.
