Oven-baked la France(European pear) with ice-cream. Chocolate cake.

This place calls itself "Oyaji's French", basically saying that the food is macho, meat-heavy, straightforward, no fancy presentation and no sensational fanfare of creative fusion which is more pleasing to female customers. I starved myself at lunch to prepare for this dinner, but turned out that it is not that macho afterall. The menu is mainly meat dishes, but the portion is not too big. Surprisingly the taste is quite delicate and never too greasy or salty. Two of us shared two appetizers and THREE main courses, before we had desserts. Everything we ordered was delicious, except perhaps the chocolate cake which was grossly sweet. Among the 3 main dishes we had, I like the guinea fowl the most. The bill was about 10,000yen per person including a glass of champagne and 2 glasses of wine and also coffee. Not exactly cheap, but not overpriced either. The interior is not so pretty - it is more like a cheap yoshoku place than a French restaurant. But the young waiter is friendly and the chef, whom you can see cooking all by himself in the open kitchen, is also helpful in explaining the menu.
From the 2800yen full course lunch. Pasta is Peperoncino with green chilli. Main dish is oven-grilled chicken. The chicken is not bad while the appetizer and the pasta are just okay. Portion is small.

The quality of food is not that fantastic but the location is great - very near Shibuya station but since it is on the 3rd floor of a building and the entrance is hard to spot, it is never full. The view by the window is great too.
Miyazaki's specialty Hiyajiru - cold, soybean paste soup with dried bonito, sesame and other ingredients. The Hiyajiru is very nice with rice. So nice that I always eat two bowls. Sardine simmered with umeboshi, Inaka Umani(root vegetables simmered in soy sauce and sugar).
Chicken Nanban(Miyazaki style). The deep-fried chicken is dipped in sweet vinegar and topped with tartare sauce before serving. Very good! Both rice and miso soup are refillable.
The value is amazing in this little restaurant. The regular dinner course is 2730yen which includes an appetizer, a main dish and coffee/tea. Dessert is an extra 525yen. Lunch is even cheaper, 1260yen for appetizer+main+coffee. The location is quite convenient too - a bit hard to spot but it is less than 10mins walk from Shinjuku station. My friend said that the chef is less interested in making money than providing his customers with cheap and good food. Seriously the price is set so low that I can't help but worry about its survival.

Refillable coffee or tea are also included.

Very good-value lunch buffet. I especially like the French toast, egg benedict(though not the usual fare with English muffins) and omelette. The restaurant is inside Grand Hyatt Tokyo in Roppongi Hills. Compared to New York Grill, I like all the hotel-breakfast menu here, but I think the appetizers and the desserts are better in NYG(the salad and appetizers are slightly on the oily side here). FK is cheaper though.
Clam steamed with chinese wine.
White fish, flavored with sweet herb oil and breaded, broiled in oven.
Sakura and Ume ice-cream.

We also had plum wine, and rice. The ice-cream were free. And the bill was about 8000yen for two people. Old entry here. The food is good this time too, though I thought our choices last time were better. We sat at the counter and while the tobacco smoke from the couple next to us didn't bother us so much as last time, our eyes were tearing and noses running because of the smoke from the open kitchen. We went on a weekday and it was sooooooo busy even after 9pm. The delivery was so slow that at first we just sat there for half an hour straight without any food. And they kept forgetting our orders...my friend said she loves the lively atmosphere and the friendly staff so she doesn't mind, but I confess the environment is too tough for me...
Taco rice lunch.

Quite a nice lunch spot. Okinawa soba is always good. Like all the daily lunches too. Though all the sets are very carb-heavy - that's probably why they are so cheap. Also the curry rice is quite bad - boil-in-the-bag supermarket curry quality. ^^;;;

My main dish: Oven-grilled lamb chop(250g including the bones) with herb and breadcrumbs, and roasted potatoes.
My friend's: Pork loin(160g) Saute, with ham and bell pepper.
My lamb is the second item from the top of the main dish menu, which means it is second in terms of size. I was stuffed by the end but I finished it!! Phew!!
Marron mille-feuille and custard pudding.

Dinner course is 6000yen per person including dessert and coffee. Tax included and no service charge. Glass wine is 900yen. The price is very reasonable, especially for the amount of food you get. Quality-wise, it is a bit salty in taste but good in a home-cooked sort of way.

Yosenabe Udon. Super delicious! So many ingredients(including my beloved mochi) in it.
Odamakimushi: chawanmushi with udon(just a little bit) at the bottom. Need to wait for 15mins but totally worth it.
Kakiage-tendon. Not only kakiage, but also two prawn tempura. The prawns are smaller than the more expensive "Tendon", but tasty enough.
Soba made with yomogi(limited period).

Not only soba, udon is good too. Tsuyu(soup) is delicious. Nothing I ordered was disappointing but yosenabe and okame-toji stand out the most. Portion is not big, so I always order L portion, which is an extra 100yen(the price quoted above are all for regular portion). The staff are very friendly but they don't keep very good track of who ordered what. I always order L size but they never remember that - I have to remind them to charge me 100yen more each time. ^^;;

Look at the queue during New Year holiday...normally it is crowded and you may have to wait a bit and share a table during busy lunch hour, but I've never seen a queue like this outside a soba place...
