The first few times when I visited this place and tried the meat and fish lunches, I thought they were not bad(though I suspect frozen meat/fish is used), generous in portion and cheap, so I decided to blog about this place, but after half a year of eating lunch there about 2-3 times a month, I have to say I’m really bored of the menu. Lunch soup was minestrone the first time I visited and then it changed to onion gratin soup and for SIX MONTHS, it remained the only lunch soup. There are three pasta options and they change about once a week but the pasta is mediocre in this place and I order the pasta only because I don’t want to order the same meat or fish lunch that I already had before(and I’m lazy to find another place to have lunch). Seriously the last time they changed the meat and fish menu was TWO MONTHS ago. ^^;;

Round steak lunch, Y1500. Runs out really quickly at lunch time(before noon!). Very very delicious the first time I had it, but a bit dry the second time(pic here).
Sukiyaki-ju, Y1200. It’s free at lunch time to “supersize” the meat, which I did the second time(pic here) but eventually regretted because I couldn’t finish it. Luckily I always carry a doggy bag but I think you’re not supposed to take away the leftover XD.

The beef for Steak-ju and Yakiniku-ju are the same(both are thigh meat), but the sauce and the side vegetables are different - salty sauce and namul for yakiniku-ju, sweet sauce and salad and fries for steak-ju. I like these two rice boxes, but after having it for 3 times, I’m convinced that they mix in a few slices of drier meat with the fresh and juicy ones to bring up the portion. Still good value though.

Most of the above are cheap lunch sets available from Mon to Sat, but some are from holiday lunch menu. I think the food is nice in general - there were days when the food wasn’t that great but it’s cheap and the staff are friendly. My favourites from the weekday menu are: Hainan Chicken Rice(deep fried version), Fried chicken in Special Chilli sauce, Lontong, Fried Hokkian Mee, Singapore Curry Noodles, Laksa Prawn Beancurd. Favourites from the holiday lunch menu are: Seafood soy sauce fried noodles, Laksa Fried Rice, Char Kway Teow, Singapore Mee Goreng, Black Pepper Fried Rice. For dessert, Durian Ice-cream is the best. Yam ice-cream is good too.

0912070035Usually Kaisen don in cheap places are never nice but the sashimi actually taste fresh in this place. All the other raw fish options are also good, but the cooked menu are hit and miss. The staff are very friendly.

The photos are from two amazing dinner I had in this bistro specialised in “gibier”(game meat). I’ll write the details later but the wild boar(”inoshishi”) is a must get. For me, gibier cuisine has been expensive and hit-and-miss experiences so far, but everything I had in this bistro was fantastic and it was inexpensive and every yen worth it.

I’m quite impressed by this place! Honestly I wasn’t expecting high for this place because it’s located on the top floor of a department store(Daimaru Tokyo) and we could easily get a table for a weekend lunch even though we only booked the night before….but I was surprised by how high the quality of the food was. Appetizer, main, dessert….everything was so well prepared and delicious. Plus we got a table next to the window and had a nice view over the streets. All of that for about Y4000(including a glass of champagne which was reasonably priced). Incredible value!

Went on a Sunday evening and we were the only customer throughout the whole night. I read from some food blogs beforehand that it’ll get quite expensive if you order from the a la carte, and the set course is of better value. So even though the waiter was a little overly eager to recommend us the a la carte and even said that “the set course might be a bit small in portion”, we ordered the set course anyway. And he was not lying, the portion was a little small. The taste was not bad in general, considering the price, but the service was kinda spotty - there weren’t that many options to choose from the set course and not all of us could choose what we wanted because they could only provide limited portions for each choice. After some compromising among us and we had decided our choices, they told us that they had mistaken the number of available portions, and such confusion happened not just once but twice….
