The square-cut white bread is famous in this local bakery so I just got it even though I have no butter/jam/spread of any kind in my fridge, and I confess I can’t eat white bread on its own. Toasted it and ate it with just honey, nice nice.

Apricot and walnut. Maple and walnut. Roasted beef sandwich – lots of pepper and onions.
カマンベールチーズサンド。黒豚のサラミとチーズのフォカッチャ。ソーセージキャスクルート。
Camenbert cheese sandwich. Pork salami and cheese focaccia(salty but quite good). Sausage Casse-Croute.
フレンチトースト。マロンデニッシュ。
French toast(soaked with egg, very good!). Marron Danish(marron paste and sweet potato inside).
Chou Citron. Pumpkin cream eclair, bread with walnut, bread with chocolate and banana.

Maison Kayser (メゾンカイザー)
スープランチ: サーモン、ほたて、小海老のクリームスープ、パン、サラダとコーヒー付きで、1200円。
One of my favourite bakeries opening a new cafe branch in Ikebukuro made me so happy for weeks. Their cafe inside Nihonbashi Coredo does very nice lunch(see below). But to my disappointment, Ikebukuro branch only has salad lunch, sandwich lunch and soup lunch in their menu. I picked the soup lunch, which was prawn, scallop and salmon cream soup, with a basket of bread, ratatouille salad and coffee included, 1200yen. The soup was okay, just like those American thick heavy salty type of cream soup, e.g. Chowder’s…but Chowder’s is much cheaper. What really shocked me was the bread…it was a bit soggy!! What happened?! Newly trained staff put too much water in it??? It didn’t taste right either, pain aux noix(walnut bread) is one of my favourites and I have eaten it many times, but this one included in the basket didn’t taste good at all. I also ordered the caramel ice-cream which was 200yen extra – rather watery and thin. Gosh all that costed me 1400yen….(-o-;;;;;;;)

栗のデニッシュ、ホロホロ鳥とキノコのサンド。
Chestnut danish – black sesame paste under the chestnut. Guinea fowl and mushroom sandwich – mushroom are marinated, and mustard spread on the bread. Both are quite good.
あんぱん、フィナンシェとガレット。
Anpan – red bean bun. The usual financier and galette, not very good…

ヴィシソワーズ。ドフィノワ(じゃがいものクリーム煮)と地鶏とズッキーニのグラタン、ほうれん草ベーグル、1050円。テイクアウト:黒糖ときなこ、コーヒーとレーズン、キャラメルチョコ、むらさき芋、レモンポム、チーズ胡椒、イチジク。
Back to this super delicious bagel place with a friend(see tag for old entry). We went there about 20 minutes before the shop opened at 12, the queue was shorter than last time, but unfortunately the people before us(about 10 people) were all going to eat-in and we couldn’t fit into the first round! Waiting for the second round would mean having to wait for at least an hour, and the shop staff refused to let us put down our names and perhaps wait in a coffee shop nearby or something….we hesitated but it was a long way there and stupid us, we didn’t prepare a Plan B….so we ended up waiting outside the shop, standing and starving and hot, staring at other people’s food through the window for an hour. ^^;; Potato soup came with the lunch set. I had the potato and chicken and zucchini gratin, which was alright. The salad however was very delicious. And of course the freshly baked spinach bagel, the thing we came for, hot from the oven, was very very good. Bought loads to take away too – black sugar and soybean flour, coffee and raisin, caramel and chocolate, taro, lemon apple, cheese pepper, and fig. But I think this will be my last time coming here…just too much effort. ^^;;

Super popular bagel shop…I went there 15mins before the shop opened and there were already 12 people in the queue….oh my. I was planning to eat-in and also take-out, but then I was alone and got kinda panicky about whether I should get a seat first or buy the bread first or how can I do both at the same time…^^;;. But then the girl from the shop came out and asked everyone in the queue if they wanted eat-in or take-away, and miraculously most of the people just wanted to take-away, so I got a seat reserved immediately and I could get the bread first before sitting down….yet by the time it was my turn, the most popular item “miso bagel” was sold out! And 45 minutes after the shop opened, all the bagels were sold out….for the day!!!!!! Crazy!!!!!! The counter table in the second picture was lined up with bagels when I got in, but when I was still eating my lunch, only a few were left over, and yet people still kept coming and getting shocked about the sold-out. Anyway, the lunch was grilled chicken with bread-crumbs, and of course a freshly baked carrot bagel on the side. The chicken was so tender and nice, the vegetables fresh and sweet, and the bagel was crispy on the outside and chewy inside, incredibly yummy!! Also came with a cold potage and coffee, 1200yen. I wish I live nearby and can lunch here everyday!
