Matcha ice-cream, shiratama(rice flour dumpling), ogura(red bean) Anmitsu.

Established in 1837…this place is said to be the oldest wagashi shop in Tokyo. Both of the sweets are nice but…quite expensive for the small portion! I guess you pay for the history too…

Amiyaki Dango: grilled Japanese rice dumpling(you do it yourself). Dipped in sweet soy sauce or red bean.
Both of the sweets are good. Japanese green tea is about 500yen and you can ask for hot-water refill and sit there for hours.

This cafe is produced by a traditional Japanese wagashi shop.
R style is on the top floor of Omotesando Hills.

Famous Anmitsu place that has a couple of branches. This one in Ueno is the original shop. The ice-cream/soft-cream are all very nice that I always can’t resist ordering extra scoop. The big rectangular chunk in the middle is red bean paste. Slightly sweet compared to other anmitsu places but I really like it.

Shiratama and Kintoki beans with sakura ice-cream toppings. Strawberry anmitsu. Both are spring menu.

Everything is very good in this place. The red bean, the ice-cream, the shiratama, the mochi are all so nice that any combination is great. After many visits, my favourite is actually the simple cream shiratama zenzai, but first-timer should definitely try the standard cream anmitsu. Oden is surprisingly good too.

Famous Taiyaki shop that I have bought from many times but never blogged properly. I really like it! The skin is thin and crispy and the red bean is stuffed all the way to the tip of the tail. You must eat the freshly baked ones on the spot. Long queues on weekends!

From a couple of visits.
Fried Manju. Chewy skin with red bean paste inside. Freshly fried to order. Very nice!
Awa-zenzai – millet and red bean paste. Sticky millet(hidden underneath) and rich red bean paste – one of the best I have eaten!

We went during the springtime and were served sakura tea – not exactly tea but a hot drink made from salted sakura flower and hot water. It is salty.
