A chain restaurant specialised in Sundubu or Korean tofu hotpot. This branch is inside Tokyo Dome City. There are two kinds of soup base for the Sundubu – miso(Korean style) or salt(American style), and 4 spicy levels – Mild, Hot, Very hot and Super hot. Lunch set comes with rice(free to ask for large portion at lunch time), veggy side dish and a small tofu dessert. All the additional side dishes and desserts are from the weekend and holiday menu and are not available on weekdays. I like the Sundubu lunch set here but the main reason I had lunch in this restaurant so many times is that it is conveniently located right opposite to a supermarket that I always shop on weekends….

A hamburger shop near Ningyocho station in the Nihonbashi area. The shop is very famous but a couple of my friends told me that they went there with high expectations and were disappointed. After trying for myself, I think the beef patty is not as juicy as I would like, but the burgers are still nice because other ingredients such as the veggy, different kinds of toppings, the sauces and the bread are well-prepared. Also if you order the burger, it will come with very nice French Fries and 2 onion rings – I know it’s common in most countries but it’s not in Japan.

My favourites are Lot Burger, Avocado burger and Chicken Cheese Burger. If you order the burger from the lunch menu(both “daily special” and the regular burgers), you can get the “hamburger drink set” for Y150. Everything in the Grand Menu is also available at lunch time but no drink set for that. I’ve tried quite a few side menu, soups, desserts etc but I don’t really recommend them. Stick to the burgers!

I LOVE this Indian restaurant in Jinbocho! I don’t usually crave Indian food but the curry and the naan here have me completely addicted. This restaurant was featured in a popular Japanese comic about gourmet food called Oishinbo which I haven’t read unfortunately. From the website, this restaurant seems to be under the same group as this and this Thai restaurant, both of which I tried long time ago and didn’t really like. The chef of this Indian restaurant in Akihabara used to work in Mandara, but the quality is nowhere near it.

Mandara is opened for lunch everyday of the week. Lunch B(Y1155) consists of one curry of your choice, naan, saffron rice, and fruits yogurt. Lunch A(Y1575) is Lunch B plus 1pc of Tandoori Chicken and 1pc of Sheekh Kebab. You can choose the spicy level. Level 1 and 2 aren’t hot enough so I always choose 3. I think I’ve tried all the curries available at lunch time. I can’t actually pick a favourite cos everything is so nice but the most famous one is Chicken Butter Masara.

Have been to the honten(original shop) in Shinozaki(see tag). The variety and the quality of meat is about the same(i.e.very good), but I must say the portion is much smaller in this Shirogane branch. I was stuffed to my throat by the end in Shinozaki and I paid about 7000yen including drinks, while in Shirogane I wasn’t really that full but the bill came up to 10,000yen per person. Though my visit to the Shinozaki honten was in 2007 and I haven’t been back since then. Shirogane is a much more convenient location and not too far from the station, while the honten is a hell of a walk from the out-of-the-way Shinozaki station. If you care for nice interior, young and lively staff, high percentage of female customers in trendy clothes, then Shirogane is your choice. I, on the otherhand, prefer the honten’s busybody owner who sticks a gun to your head if you cook his top-quality meat too long(3 seconds max!). I don’t think there was a time limit in Shinozaki, but you can only stay for two hours in Shirogane. I took pictures of the whole menu but most of the meat we ordered were not on it and were explained to us by the staff. I was too lazy to take notes but my friend’s choice “U-wa-mi-su-ji” had the most marbled fat and was the most juicy. Sabuton was also my favourite. Just like the honten, the grill wasn’t really that hot so I actually preferred cooking the meat – which was so fresh that it could be eaten raw – for more than 3 seconds(*gasps*). All the side dishes like yukke, soup rice were much nicer in Shirogane branch.

Absolutely delicious food. Chef is Sri Lankan. Spicy but not overly spicy that my tongue goes numb and can’t taste anything. Small restaurant busy with ever-coming customers throughout a Saturday night. Reasonably priced – 4 people share all the food plus a beer and a Masala chai each, about 3500yen per person. My favourites of the night: Pol Sambola, Cashew nuts curry, Kottu Roti. Don’t forget to print out the coupon from the homepage to get free Lassi.

1800yen set includes the usual Borscht and bread, “Blintz”(crepe version of Pirozhki I think), and white stew of mushroom and chicken baked in a small ceramic pot(not sure but probably called “Zharkoye”). I like the “Blintz” but it is a bit small. The stew is good but nothing too special. Dessert and tea are not included and I was still hungry…

White Beef stroganoff lunch set(Y2500) also includes Borscht, bread, cheese cake and Russian tea(with blueberry jam and lemon). I’ve never had a beef stroganoff with the cream sauce this thick. It is not bad but the beef is a bit tough. The cheese cake is so-so.

Cabbage roll lunch(Y2500) also includes Borscht, bread, cheese cake and Russian tea. The cabbage roll is quite rice – there is rice mixed with the meat. I wish I could skip the cheese cake and tea and have a “Blintz” instead(you can order it as a side at lunch time).

In terms of value for money, I think Hamburger lunch is the best. This basement restaurant is very small and I think quite old too. Two chefs cook behind the open kitchen, and one staff serves in a robotic and formal way which was a little strange at first but I got used to it after a while. Seems popular as it gets full like 5 mins after it opens at 11:30am!

Very nice American eatery near Tokyo Dome. Both the burgers and the sandwiches are good but I think the burgers are better in terms of taste and value. I like the Blue cheese burger and the Mushroom Burger the most – they are also the most expensive.Try not to go at peak hours cos it is just the chef in the kitchen and the quality suffers when the restaurant is packed, especially on weekend lunchtime.
