Most of the above are cheap lunch sets available from Mon to Sat, but some are from holiday lunch menu. I think the food is nice in general – there were days when the food wasn’t that great but it’s cheap and the staff are friendly. My favourites from the weekday menu are: Hainan Chicken Rice(deep fried version), Fried chicken in Special Chilli sauce, Lontong, Fried Hokkian Mee, Singapore Curry Noodles, Laksa Prawn Beancurd. Favourites from the holiday lunch menu are: Seafood soy sauce fried noodles, Laksa Fried Rice, Char Kway Teow, Singapore Mee Goreng, Black Pepper Fried Rice. For dessert, Durian Ice-cream is the best. Yam ice-cream is good too.

A chain restaurant specialised in Sundubu or Korean tofu hotpot. This branch is inside Tokyo Dome City. There are two kinds of soup base for the Sundubu – miso(Korean style) or salt(American style), and 4 spicy levels – Mild, Hot, Very hot and Super hot. Lunch set comes with rice(free to ask for large portion at lunch time), veggy side dish and a small tofu dessert. All the additional side dishes and desserts are from the weekend and holiday menu and are not available on weekdays. I like the Sundubu lunch set here but the main reason I had lunch in this restaurant so many times is that it is conveniently located right opposite to a supermarket that I always shop on weekends….

As I said before I tend to stay away from chain/franchise food joints so I never tried this Japanese style cafe even though I walked past its branch in Ochanomizu many times. But one day I gave its parfait a try and…..I loved it!! ^^;;; I’ve been going back again and again in the past few months and tried many items from the sweet/food/drink menu; “Black sesame seed gateau chocolat parfait” and “Kakuni and hotspring-egg donburi”(the two pics above) are my favourite sweet and food item respectively. For the rest, I’ll let the photos speak for themselves.

The owner of this ramen shop used to work in Jiro, which explains the resemblance to Jiro in taste and style. I’ve tried the Suidoubashi branch near Tokyo Dome(left pic) and the Nihonbashi honten(right pic) which is the original shop. The two shops are similar in quality – Nihonbashi branch is a little bit more expensive(talking about ~30 yen difference), and Suidoubashi branch is less shabby and is easier to go in for female customers.

I really love the thick and chewy noodles here. The soup is Tonkotsu(pork bone broth) and soy sauce based, which is nice but I find it too salty to drink on its own. So rather then soup ramen, it’s more like ramen mixed with sauce. Just like Jiro, it’s free to ask for extra vegetable(mostly beansprouts), extra onion, extra pork fat, stronger taste, and garlic.

A chain ramen shop near Tokyo Dome that promotes LOHAS(heathy + environmental friendly). Usually I try not to go near chain/franchise food joints simply because of the high chance of having a 21-year-old part-timer cooking in the kitchen, but this shop is alright even though the cook is different depends on the day of the week and all of them are pretty young. Their homepage says the soup base is low-fat chicken, the noodles have soy milk blended in, the vegetables are low in agricultural chemicals, and organic tomatoes from Italy are used(why not use local ones? ). Healthy claims aside, I think the food is not bad in general, and it does feel good to have a bowl of noodles that is not oily or salty and has a lot of tomatoes in it. Plus it is cheap, it is non-smoking, and it opens all day, everyday of the week.

This curry shop has a few branches and seems quite popular(even has a fan site!) but I must say I am not so crazy about its curry. The menu sounded interesting so I tried everything…but the soft fatty pork is the only thing I like. The curry is very spicy(all the ones that are bright red in colour) but I find it a bit lacking in favour other than chili. It is very cheap though, plus you get a Y100 discount coupon everytime.

I like the tempura, the toppings on soba, the soup…but I’m not so crazy about the soba itself. Most items on the menu are quite expensive and for this kind of price I would rather go somewhere else for really good-quality soba(Just found a quite expensive but really good soba place in this area which I will blog after I’ve exhausted its menu in a few months or so ^^;;).
