Since our last visit, the prix-fix menu has gone from $30 to $35 (a new year adjustment?). There’re many similar dishes
Pretty Cold Sake jar. This time one of the cold courses has Geoduck and Fish Eggs (very crispy, yellow kind).
Salmon with Beer Jelly I think I heard it right, the pretty jewel jelly cube is made from beer. Just like last time the fish is so well marinated and perfectly cooked, very delicious.
Sashimi course: Kanpachi, Maguro, Scallop, very fresh, very good (and we just read about the NYT mercury article that morning).
Cold Crab and a heavily miso flavored Sardine that’s too rough texture (hurt the surface of my tongue).
Deep Fried Oysters and Shrimp, Lightly Batter, very good, I enjoyed this much better than the fried chicken last time.
Yummy Onion, Green Onion & Egg Rice (sweet) and incredibly smooth Chawanmushi (and Red bean ice cream).
Even though the courses are similar as last time, I’m still delighted by the attention to details (beer jelly) and better sashimi and deep fried course. The night we went was very full, make sure you reserve table (for 3 or more people only) or else you’d have to wait forever for people to finish their 11 courses.

Sashimi looks awesome. Looks like they’re getting into molecular gastronomy with the beer jelly. Did it go well with the salmon? Also, are you using a new camera? Your pics have a different feel as of late.
I tried it out with a friend and I thought a lot of the ingredients were previously frozen and things didn’t taste all that fresh in general. Both my friend and I spend that night and the next day throwing up. Can’t say which dish did us in.
The food is very izakaya feel actually. I would want to have plain rice with the fish and deep-fried stuff! Everything shown in pics is for one person right? $35 seems reasonable(as in Japan price).
duckduckgoose (I love your name!): ah that sounds bad, I’m so sorry you had a bad experience. The first time I went has more cold dishes, that didn’t feel good in the stomach as well. this time I went is better.
sneakermonkey: Yes I got a new camera, I’m still testing the best setting. I’m glad you notice the difference (hope for the better~). The new Canon should be more fine and natural color compare to my old Sony cybershot.
Seat: yes that’s for one person. The vibe is def. more izakaya, with home cooking flavors. ^^;;
The photos do feel more natural. Some pics feel like they were taken from a Peter Greenaway film.
Like the shot of the cheese plate on the Canele post. Keep up the good work!
thanks sneakermonkey~ 🙂
