Fatty’s (Eagle Rock)

By in 03: Eagle Rock, Food: Los Angeles

An insanely busy week at work for us, hence the slow update.
We took our parents to the rather pricey but tasty Vegetarian restaurant Fatty’s. It’s been awhile since we went there, previous visits: 1, 2, 3.

I love their interior space a lot. Curry Lentil Soup. The sweet glazed bread was delicious.

The Zeppelin Pizza: three mushroom varieties, onions, herbs and garlic, handcrafted sharp white cheddar and provolone with sun dried tomato and kalamata olive spread. Smells wonderful. Tasty but a bit rich.

Ratatouille – a new dish on the menu. Very good though a bit strong tasting.

Fatty's
Ravioli – striped spinach ricotta, edam, gouda and fresh herbs ravioli in sage butter sauce with asparagus and pine nuts. I’ve had this before but didn’t remember it being so sweet (honey?). I love it~

A new item on the menu: Paella. Does not taste like paella at all, very oily and quite tasteless. Fudgey – a two layer chocolate bundt cake with chocolate ganache, toasted coconut and pecan frosting with a creamy center. Very good! I’m so surprised that it’s vegan, I can taste the soy-ness but it’s still good.

Western and Chinese vegetarian food in restaurants are quite often oily and use too strong seasoning. Maybe an attempt to compensate for the absence of meat. They use cheese so this place is not strictly vegan.

Yeah because meat provide many ‘oil’ when being cooked, they have to compensate that. Some items are noted as purely vegan (such as the dessert), but most are vegetarian.
