Kam Wah Cafe (Hong Kong: Prince Edward)

By in 09: Hong Kong, Favorite Food Entries

While waiting for shops to open, we got breakfast at this old school Cha Chaan Teng (literally translated as Tea Restaurant) called Kam Wah Cafe. Cha Chaan Teng is basically a Hong Kong style diner where you can have breakfast, lunch and dinner all day. The menu feature colonial Hong Kong style Chinese-Western fusion dishes.

We got the classic Hong Kong style Breakfast: HK style Milk Tea and Coffee, Cocktail bun and Pineapple bun (there’s no pineapple). The baked goods are incredibly soft, puffy, fresh, golden and delicious! Probably due to nostalgia, they tasted like the yummiest thing I’ve ever had in my life at that moment. It’s only afterward that I found out their Pineapple bun is very famous.

I love this cup! The print is from the Black & White international trade version that’s used to make Hong Kong Milk Tea. Apparently you could buy them from one of the diners at Mong Kok.

Coconut Tart, a childhood stable. We forgot to get their Egg Tart (not in picture) which is very famous, and from the way they disappeared as soon as they came out of the oven, we should have gotten a clue. >_<

    the teacup is soooo cute!! did you get it??

    I love pinapple buns too, but I never knew they
    don’t have pinapple in them!! the ones in the pic
    look better than the ones I’ve had ^^

    I think the Japanese melon pan (same as Soboro?) taste different from the Hong Kong’s Pineapple bun. The soboro taste sweeter and lighter, while HK’s Pineapple bun used lard in it, so unhealthy but so GOOD! Oh the wiki entry said it is high in calorific value (high in carbohydrates, saturated fats and cholesterol) and been declared one of the top 10 most harmful snack foods in Hong Kong >O<

    Wahaha~~~top 10 most harmful snack!! XDDD
    And you got the regular pineapple bun, right? You know they even sandwich it with BUTTER!
    But still, I’d rather eat a pineapple bun than a Big Mac!

    Right seat, the ones with a block of butter inbetween is “Pineapple butter” (Bo lo yau) right? It’s good but unnecessary on one that’s so fresh and tasty already ^^;;
