Simpang Asia (Palms)

By in 11: West LA, Favorite Food Entries

When my friend told me about meeting at this Indonesian place for lunch, I was puzzled…isn’t this a grocery store? Right across the street is the much more famous Indo Cafe. I would never have spot it as it’s buried in in a mini mall. Turns out it’s half grocery half cafe. The food is cheap and amazing!

Mie Ayam Baso (Egg noddle with sauteed hchicken and mushroom), a bit chinese tasting. Sop Buntut $5.75 Oxtail soup, very tender and tasty!

Salad: Ketoprak, didn’t shown in the photo but there’re actually ‘compressed rice ball” inside. The fried thing on the right comes with the salad, I don’t know what it is.

Nasi Goreng (fried rice) is DELICIOUS! So flavored~

Durian Juice, very good (doesn’t have the strong smell). Chicken Satay. I would have much prefer beef satay but they didn’t have beef that day. As their operation seems rather small, not all items on the menu are guarantee served. Everything on the menu sounds so exotic~~ What a delicious meal, even though served with plastic plates and cups, it’s satisfying. Shared by 4 people~

The soup looks so nice! I want to try the frozen durian drink! It is always exciting to discover nice hidden eateries that not many people know.

Thanks for leaving comment Jonah, I love your blog and well written review~ I’d love to try Indo Cafe too.

The durian drink is actually my friend’s. I ordered a mango juice but after waiting forever for it, the waitress came to tell me that their stock of mango were not ripe yet, and wonder if I mind squeeze from a green mango. Of course I won’t mind (i love sour mango as much as ripe ones ^^;;).
