Sawtelle Kitchen (Sawtelle)

By in 12: Sawtelle

Sawtelle Kitchen used to be this charming tiny rustic yoshoku (Japanese western food) house on the westside Little Tokyo Sawtelle street. You stopped by there always for their Japanese cutlet/curry/lunch set, even when you’re by yourself. Then they closed down and bought the neighboring vintage clothes store and remodeled for what felt like half a year. They finally re-opened and…

They’ve turned $$ ‘real Italian restaurant’! Now with much bigger space, romantic ‘expensive’ looking European interior, wall of wine cellar, and a full staff. The Clam with White Wine Pasta is so-so. The menu seems to be more expensive. While you can still find the lunch set, curry and cutlet…the vibe is totally different. Now it felt like the kind of generic overpriced restaurants in LA.

so is the menu completely different??? I wish they set up a web page to introduce the new menu and pricing…

I think the menu is still pretty much the same, maybe I haven’t been there for a long time but I don’t remember the pastas priced around $12-$15 (aren’t they used to be all under $10?) Still the same lunch sets too. It’s more that the vibe is no longer intimate and as casual as it used to be.
