Sushi Karen (Culver City)

By in 13: Culver City

I read about this place which is the recent food blog sensation, and I also heard that they get same supplies as some of the high end sushi places in LA. I must give it a try~~

I’m already impressed when I walked in and saw the specials, unlike most usual medium priced range sushi places in LA, they offer the more unusual things.

Monk Fish Liver (very good!) and Sea Urchin (not the sweestest freshest but nonetheless still good, guess we need to sit at the bar to get the best stuffs).

Amberjack with Jalapeno, garlic and citrus sauce. The jalapeno gave just enough punch, the garlic smells so wonderful, really good.

Red Snapper with Spicy Lemon Salt and Bonito, Spanish Mackerel and Amberjack (again!). All fresh and amazing~ Love the rice that’re in perfect temperature and vinegared. I usually like my sushi traditional and simple, but I really enjoyed their special sashimi and seared tuna. I’m so glad to find another good sushi place (on westside!)

    Amberjack looks good! Did a search and it is “kanpachi” in Japanese, which I really like.

    Yeah it’s kanpachi~
    Most mid-range sushi places here always just offer regular stuffs, tuna, salmon, yellowtail…etc. at most Spanish Mackerel. So you get bored fast. If I want premium stuffs I have go to more $$ sushi place. I don’t see much mentaiko sushi either (not ikura). So my eyes light up whenever I see more..err..unusual fish…^^;;
