La Poule Au Pot (ラ・プール・オ・ポ)

ガトー・ド・フォア・ド・ヴォライユ ソースナンチュア。(レバーのムースにトマトスープをかけて。) So hate this kind of menu – all the items are written in katakana translated directly from French that you just won’t know what the hell they are. At the end we had to ask the waitor to explain the whole menu to us, and yet his explaination was at the level of “oh this is mainly beef”, “this is potato and bacon…” The chicken liver mousse was cooked on the outside but raw inside, with warm tomato soup – quite an interesting idea but didn’t taste very good. ^^;

プチサレ・オ・シュー(塩漬け豚とキャベツ)。バナナのロティ。ランチコース、2000円。The pork and cabbage was really quite yummy, but the dessert turned out to be steamed banana which was a bit of a joke.

  1. Went to see War of the worlds this morning…I knew nothing about it except the trailer shown on TV and I thought it was going to be one of those Hollywood visual effect + sappy family story line kinda diaster movie – the latter I hate but I just can’t resist any movies with UFOs and Earth being destroyed. ^^;;;; But it turned out to be quite different! The visual effects are there but they are not the main focus at all, rather the ugliness of human nature that surfaced due to fear, the helplessness and insignificance of human existence. I can’t say I “enjoyed” the film because throughout the whole film Tom Cruise was always trying desperately to save 1) his son, who kept trying to kill himself, 2) his daughter, who kept screaming all the time, 3) some guy who gave them shelter, who turned psycho and tried to fight the alien. So I was constantly annoyed cos everyone was doing stupid and irrational things. But I sure like the very classic idea of alien invading earth, spraying the soil with human blood…you know, no complicated pretentious theories/mysteries/conspiracy…^^;;; Oh, not until the credits came out that I found out the film is based on H.G. Wells’ novel!!! What, I am an idiot!! ^^;;;; Haven’t actually read his classics but no wonder the film felt so classic….egg-head me! But I wish some unknown actor rather than Tom Cruise were in it…he is just too Tom Cruise and not convincing!!

    Oh I saw King Kong(Yeah PJ!)’s trailer!! It looks good!

  2. The place is called ‘French’? ^^;;
    Even if they do pretnetious katagana of the French word, at least have Japanese explanation of details…
    The steam banana looked blacken (as if rotten) that’s not very inviting…

  3. Yeah it’s based on H.G. Wells’s novel (that ID4 actually was loosely based on War of the World too). They sell it like it’s ID4, I never read the book though I heard it’s really about human drama. A friend of mine design and animate that whole opening sequence~~ But I’m boycotting this movie because of Tom Cruise, so sick of this guy (here we’re bombarded with his endless sickening publicity stunt and religion fanaticism, and he’s been mocked and ridicule all over and no one takes him anymore), sound like I might not miss much. ^^;; I think there’s a 50s film version that’s quite well done, I haven’t seen that yet. There’s a famous story back in 1930s (?), Orson Welles (famous director of Citizen Kane) adapted it to a radio drama, he wrote it in a news report style. When it was broadcast, millions of Americans thought it was REAL! O.O They actually believed it there is really aliens invasion and thought it was a live news broadcast, and went on an ridiculous nationwide panic…crazy… here’s details of the story.

  4. The waitor there told me not to introduce the restaurant in the internet…since I was taking photos and all, so didn’t put up the name of the restaurant. (still putting up pics though…^^;;)

    I heard the story about the silly panic in Orson Welles, but I think it is hard to blame them if the broadcast was sounding very real. Of course they were silly not to confirm it first before bringing out their guns. ^^;;;;

  5. How come the waiter didn’t want you to mention the restaurant in the internet!? Are they afraid that you would trash them or something? ^^;;; So weiirdd…hmm…it’s free publicity and they don’t want it!

    Yeah can’t wait for King Kong~~ Adrian Brody is soooo cuteee :DDDDD !!! Not too sure about the dinosaurs though, kinda sick of them already since the 90s.

  6. I don’t know, maybe they just don’t want too many customers that they can’t handle?? Or just being snobby…^^;;

    Yeah, to be honest, the dinosaur didn’t look good at all. ^^;;; But I actually liked King Kong(the old version) a lot when I was a kid, plus a huge mouth-watering bonus – Adrian Brody – simply can’t wait to see it!
