This Taiwanese-style(?) tea cafe has a variety of flavoured tea options and you can choose either Assam or Jasmine. For milk tea, Assam is nicer(well of course). The Matcha cappuccino is pretty gross so stick with Assam or Jasmine. Masala chai is very good. If the tea didn’t cost as much as 400yen a cup, I wouldn’t mind trying more flavours…
The Panini sandwiches are nice – I guess it is you-can-make-at-home quality but oh well I don’t have a Panini-press toaster. Soft tacos has tomato, lettuce, onion and mince curry in it but I am sure the tacos was microwaved. Fake Vietnamese banana dessert was bad. They have some simple rice menu at lunch time but they don’t look so good so I didn’t try.

Haha! Pity the foods were just so-so (or even gross!) when the shop has such a cute appearance and I love the name -Ichaichie is a concept I like, maybe it’s even more fitting for a traditional tea place…

Oh only the Matcha tasted gross, the food was okay la. I guess you can’t expect gourmet food in a cafe(the kitchen is tiny), and you have to pay more for the environment and the longer time that you occupy the seats. Yes I love the name of the place too. Strangely the staff are all Japanese guys…

Yike the taco seems so throw together. I would never snack at Taiwanese cafe for their food, especially ‘western’ ones (even sandwiches ^^;;). I don’t know why but Ii never had good Taiwanese cafe food at all (unlike HK western cafe). If it’s Taiwanese style snack then it’s usually alright.
Those Taiwanese-style cafe chains in HK don’t serve very nice food too – usually just simple toast or chicken wings or simmered eggs in tea…you know those Taiwanese ones. But I like the tea!
Oh yeah I like Taiwanese drinks too, there’s one nearby where my parents live that makes very good tea drink. You get almost hundred of creative tea such as “Rose Aloe Tea” (yum!) and very Asian herb ones. But many other Taiwanese cafe chain here just use the same powder and syrup that usually taste fake.
As for the generally boring and bad Taiwanese cafe food, I think it’s because Taiwan never had actual historic western influence (be it ‘open port’ or ‘colonial’) for their western cafe culture. Taiwanese cafe culture is more or less a water-down copy of contemporary Japan. Since they didn’t go through that colonial French/Dutch/UK/Portugal/Europe influenced of S.Asia, Hong Kong or open port of Victorian age Japan where they get their own fusion cafe food evolved through history. So Taiwanese cafe usually have some uninspiring club sandwich, generic cheese cake, dried JP-style crepe…etc. So I don’t trust anything ‘western’ by Taiwan (and Korean too) in general…because they’re usually some shallow copy of Japanese cafe/youshouku ^^;; I’ll rather order Taiwanese’s own oyster pancake or sausages or shave ice, etc.

Maybe the thriving cafe scene in Japan is also contributed by Japanese people’s love of cute decor cute little things that show the owner’s character and taste. Japanese just appreciate pretty things much more than say HK people in general. Quality of food is not everything, the environment is also important. They are willing to pay for the decor and ambience(while I want to spend every cent on food and food alone ^^;;;). Also Japanese do have a sweet tooth for cakes and desserts. Don’t forget they have matcha and Japanese sweets in Japanese-style cafes that are from long time ago and have nothing got to do with western influence.
