From the 2800yen full course lunch. Pasta is Peperoncino with green chilli. Main dish is oven-grilled chicken. The chicken is not bad while the appetizer and the pasta are just okay. Portion is small.

The quality of food is not that fantastic but the location is great – very near Shibuya station but since it is on the 3rd floor of a building and the entrance is hard to spot, it is never full. The view by the window is great too.

Miyazaki’s specialty Hiyajiru – cold, soybean paste soup with dried bonito, sesame and other ingredients. The Hiyajiru is very nice with rice. So nice that I always eat two bowls. Set lunch comes with Chicken Nanban and grilled fish. Chicken is delicious but the fish can be a little dry sometimes.

Sardine simmered with umeboshi, Inaka Umani(root vegetables simmered in soy sauce and sugar).
Chicken Nanban(Miyazaki style). The deep-fried chicken is dipped in sweet vinegar and topped with tartare sauce before serving. Very good! Both rice and miso soup are refillable.

We also had plum wine, and rice. The ice-cream were free. And the bill was about 8000yen for two people. The food is good this time too, though I thought our choices last time were better(see tag for old entry). We sat at the counter and while the tobacco smoke from the couple next to us didn’t bother us so much as last time, our eyes were tearing and noses running because of the smoke from the open kitchen. We went on a weekday and it was sooooooo busy even after 9pm. The delivery was so slow that at first we just sat there for half an hour straight without any food. And they kept forgetting our orders…my friend said she loves the lively atmosphere and the friendly staff so she doesn’t mind, but I confess the environment is too tough for me…

My main dish: Oven-grilled lamb chop(250g including the bones) with herb and breadcrumbs, and roasted potatoes.
My friend’s: Pork loin(160g) Saute, with ham and bell pepper.
My lamb is the second item from the top of the main dish menu, which means it is second in terms of size. I was stuffed by the end but I finished it!! Phew!!

Dinner course is 6000yen per person including dessert and coffee. Tax included and no service charge. Glass wine is 900yen. The price is very reasonable, especially for the amount of food you get. Quality-wise, it is a bit salty in taste but good in a home-cooked sort of way.

Have been wanting to try this restaurant for the longest time and in fact I booked this place twice before, but both times I ended up having to cancel the bookings due to a change in schedule. Finally I managed to eat there and the quality didn’t disappoint at all! Every dish is so delicious and delicate-tasting. Some dishes are quite Kyoto style with Ankake(starchy sauce) and using ingredients from Kyoto. 5250yen for this 10-course meal is really amazing in value. The restaurant is small and is at the basement. The interior is kinda modern Japanese dining feel. Very convenient location as it is like just across the road from Ebisu station. Definitely want to go back again when the menu is renewed.

Singaporean “carrot cake”. It is actually radish cake stir-fried with egg and chilli sauce.
Sangria with mango juice – rather expensive cocktail(850yen) which tastes just okay. Also ordered a grapefruit alcohol drink(650yen) which, to my disappointment, came in a bottle! Better stick with beer next time…

All the food are very nice! I especially loved the radish cake, Roti Prata and fried noodles. I’ve been to lunch at the original restaurant near Roppongi(see tag) and Hainan chicken rice was terrible. But in this Ebisu branch, the same chicken rice was very good! I am not sure if it is the difference between lunch and dinner, or Ebisu and Roppongi. Overall the taste is a bit strong/salty – which is of course the universal strategy to make you order more drinks. Environment and service are good. Price is reasonable(except those fancy cocktails). 3 of us shared all the food plus drinks, less than 4000yen per person.
