Vancouver, Canada

In Prince George, we went to a park, some malls that close at 5pm(huuuh?!), some supermarkets, and of course visited my sister's college......not much to see not much to do really. Vancouver is much better in terms of sight-seeing, and rather irrelevant perhaps but people are not fat like in Prince George - seeing too much obesity is depressing. I have been to Vancouver before but I was backpacking at that time; this time a handy local guide with a car, i.e. my uncle, was taking us around so we ended up NOT seeing much of the touristy spots but rather visiting places that locals go - like residential areas with beautiful houses, local shopping streets, chinese districts that you don't hear any English. Pictures from left to right: View from our hotel room. The clock clicks 7, pm!!! Sun doesn't set til after 9pm. Local shopping street near my uncle's house in West Vancouver. Beaver Lake in Stanley Park - the only touristy place I re-visited this time.

A really good Cantonese noodle place in Richmond. I remember the shop name but can't type in Japanese characters. Anyway, my other sister who travelled from home with my parents stopped taking pictures of the food from this day onwards.....understandable. ^^;;;

Sun Sui Wah Seafood Restaurant
3888 Main Street, Vancouver.
My uncle's recommendation, very good indeed.

Sago and red bean egg pudding - god it is so good!!

AMATO GELATO CAFE
0515 265.jpgDurian ice-cream is excellent. Had it twice during my stay.

富臨(Fortune Restaurant)
Great dim sum place. Exceptionally good "Deep fried Honey Dan San".

hugo restaurant
3254 Cambie Street.

My uncle's favourite steak house - very HK cafe style. I had lobster bisque which was a bit salty, and charboiled prime grade rib-eye steak, with red wine liver sauce. The steak was quite soft. There was a big telly showing HK channels....

CINNZEO
0516 011.jpgCinnaroll. I was surprised when my uncle brought me here to have gwai-lo sweets, but it is really quite nice. Not too sweet and the bread has very chewy texture, good!

客満庭(Northern Delicacy)
Nice interior, nice name for a Shanghai restaurant, but the food was so-so. Found an insect in the soup - yuck.

Basically we were just hanging around in chinese districts with no white Canadians, not that I care much but, no wonder my sister decided to move to Prince George - she said she couldn't speak a word of English after staying in Vancouver for 2 years. Wise decision indeed, Prince George is sad and boring but at least that keeps all the chinese away. ^^;;

Comments:

I think the restaurants I tried in Vancouver were quite good, after all my uncle took us to his favourites, but they were about the same standard as the good ones in HK, and more expensive than HK.

HK style cafes are good and cheap for a quick meal but they are boring~~~~even in HK these cafes are trying to have new menu.

SO IT IS TRUE THAT VANCOUVER HAVE MANY GOOD CHINESE RESTAURANTS? HOW ARE THEY COMPARE TO HK CURRENT QUALITY? THE SEAFOOD SHOULD BE GOOD UP THERE RIGHT?

HAHA THE STEAKHOUSE IS SOOOO HK STYLE CAFE, THERE'RE SO MANY HK STYLE CAFE DOWN HERE AT LA'S CHINESE COMMUNITY ESPECIALLY 5 YEARS AGO, BECAUSE THEY COST LESS, COOKING SKILL NO NEED TO BE GOOD, AND YOUNG ASIAN PEOPLE LIKE TO GO THERE...THOUGH I THINK THERE'RE LESS AND LESS IN RECENT YEARS (COZ THE CHINESE HERE'S LIVING QUALITY IS IMPROVED? ^^;;;)

Wowow so many updates!
All those Chinese restaurants seem sooooo HK! It's practically like bekng in HK at Vancouver huh? ^^;; The Alsaka Crab looks so threatening!! Man I missed eating grilled pigeon~~~ (I used to eat a lot when living in Shatin). Not much place here has it, and it's not good even if they do. That steakhouse is sooooooo HK style cafe.

Your sister did the right move indeed. ^^;;;
