060220 253揚げまんじゅう。 粟ぜんざい。
From a couple of visits.
Fried Manju. Chewy skin with red bean paste inside. Freshly fried to order. Very nice!
Awa-zenzai - millet and red bean paste. Sticky millet(hidden underneath) and rich red bean paste - one of the best I have eaten!

We went during the springtime and were served sakura tea - not exactly tea but a hot drink made from salted sakura flower and hot water. It is salty.

Mochi zenzai. Red bean paste with mochi inside.

Everything above were served hot. My favourites are Manju and Awa-zenzai(not available in summer).

Comments:

Sakura tea is not just salty but does have a nice smell. It is sold in packs, with sakura flower preserved in salt, and you just add water. I bought a pack in Kyoto and finished it really quickly. You should try! You can find it easily in Japanese food stores around spring time.

Yeah shiruko is just red bean soup. I like the pasty and sticky zenzai more. They have a lot of kakigori options for summer but I don't fancy eating ice with syrup...

The big bowl of red bean (even though there's mochi inside)...is far not as tempting as others. Shiruko is basically Chinese's "Red bean soup"?

Interesting...salted sakura water, sounds like it's more salty than flowery? These desserts looks too 'filling' to be after meal or even afternoon teatime. But how I wish we have something like (and a proper Chinese teahouse too) this here.

あ、でも秋以降に・・
こういう老舗でもカキ氷ってやってるんでしょうかね?
こないだの「みはし」のカキ氷はワタシには甘すぎました・・
