Angelique Cafe (Downtown)

On a lazy Sunday morning we tried to go to the wonderful Wood spoon but sadly it wasn’t opened. Hungry and thirsty, we went to the nearby Angelique Cafe, a small corner French place that’s located when Spring street and Main street join together. It’s got a quiant and cute exterior: old red brick building in between lines of trees. It definitely stood out amongst the industrial-ish surroundings. For a short moment we forgot we’re in downtown LA.

This place been around for awhile I think. An old-schooler instead of new rush of restaurants that’s been popping up in downtown LA these past years. It sure looks that way inside. The menu is small and features standard French cafe fare like crepe, omelette, quiche, sandwich and salad.

I got the Moroccan sausage sandwich which was really tasty. The lamb sausage has a nice mild spicy kick to it.

Freda got the ham and cheese quiche. The portion was quite large so she could only finish eating one.

Although the food is nothing particularly exciting nor original, they’re solidly tasting. Besides, the price is decent and the portion is generous. I can see it being a favorite daily eat for people who work and live nearby. The 2nd floor terrace seatings seems romantic. There’s a cute building across the street on the left side of the restaurant which I couldn’t stop staring and wished to be my home.

I love this place! Now you just need to go to Tiara Cafe, and you will have been to my three most frequented restaurants because of sheer geography. 😉

Am I the only one who suffered beyond-French horrendous service? (Rhetorical Q, don’t answer) The food was just fine. I also had the merguez sammy.. ehhnn… mediocre bun, quite pricey.

I use to go here for lunch all the time when I worked in downtown LA. Decent food. I really enjoyed the steak salad!

Weezermonkey – Now I gotta try Tiara Cafe! ^_^

sinosoul – our service was fine…but yeah it’s not an amazing place that worths driving across town for. There are worst and generic sandwich/quiche out there though.

Evelina – will try the steak salad next time I go there!
