When we arrived at San Francisco it was nearly midnight, and we were starving. A very nice hotel clerks at Mark Hotel (not even where we stayed) found this still opened Scala’s Bistro at the listing, they said they’d served us if we arrived before midnight. The clerk even called the taxi (with a whistle!) for us. The restaurant has very nice old-world classic Parisian interior with high ceiling and beautiful designs. The open kitchen…love it!

DSC04858.jpgDSC04842.jpgTo beat the clock we only had appertizer. Steak Tartare $9.5 Minced Kobe Beef with Dijon, Capers, Onion. Foie Gras en Bocal Chilled Terrine of duck foie gras with Maldon sea salt. $17. I have the Moules Frites $13 Mussels Steamed with Herbs, Garlic and White Wine Pommes Frites Served with Cracked Pepper Mayonnaise . The food are absolutely amazing!!! The sauce is so delicious and mussels all are fresh, fat, juicy and big. ^O^ The dessert as well. We got the Bostini Cream Pie, Creamy vanilla Custard, orange chiffon cake, warm chocolate glaze. $7.25 What a great start!

    Amazing that near midnight you still manage to find such good food!! Everything looks so classy, especially the foie gras and minced beef.

    It is Bistro but the menu in the hp are mostly Italian.

    “Rustic Italian and Country French” so it said…
    This is our only fancy restaurant dining this trip, yet not the most expensive…^^;;;

    it’s quite safe to just run into any restaurants in SF… unlike LA, even if it’s hip and famous AND expensive, you will still have the chance of being dissapointed!!!

    hi veronica!
    long time no talk ^O^

    did you guys take this trip for some occasion?
    (like gay parade?)
    or was it just to travel??

    Exactly, so many landmine in LA…while SF’s quality is consistently high.

    Tomoko, we went up there as just a weekend getaway. Though I remember this classmate of ours in Artcenter would go up to SF one on the weekend for peace rally… ^^;;;
