Frjtz Gourmet Belgian Fries (San Francisco: Mission district)

Jon and I went up to the Bay area for the Labor day weekend. After walking around the city for several hours we were both tired and thirsty. We went to Frjtz Gourmet Belgian Fries at the Mission District for afternoon snacks. They have a $5 beer + fries happy hour combo which is a good deal. Even though they’re called “Frjtz gourmet belgian fries”, they have plenty mussels, crepe and sandwich dishes on the menu.

Perhaps they forgot our orders, the fries took forever to come. (I mean…people behind us got their fries way ahead of us, it was until after I tried to engage eye contacts with the cashier that he went over to the kitchen, talked to the kitchen staff who then dipped fries into the fryer, then came out with our fries…pretty obvious huh?) The fries were really good, thick and very crispy.

FritzYou get to choose a dipping sauce, we got Miso Mayonnaise (can’t really taste the miso) and Moroccan saffron aioli. Both taste quite similar so we regretted not getting something more ketchup-tasting (i.e. Curry Ketchup, Ponzu ketchup etc etc). However you can get regular ketchup and mayonnaise at the condiment stands.

A small incident happened while we were there, a rat ran into the restaurant from the street and dashed right into the kitchen. Many of the customers screamed and lifted their legs up, while the kitchen staffs had no reaction at all. Yikes…we left soon after and went into a coffee shop instead.

I can’t believe that a rat ran in! Hahahaha!

  2. What the???

The staff didn’t do anything to the rat? Time to call the Health dept in SF about this.

Ponzu Ketchup would have been so cool. I’ll keep this place in mind. Thanks!
