Back to this tapas wine bar at Abbot Kinney for a co-workers night-out. See old entry. Originally we’re suppose to go to a Sushi place, but some people don’t like/can’t eat sushi (-__-;;;). The Pinot Noir from France is possibly the best wine I’ve ever had so far. We end up getting 3 bottles, shared by 9 people. The Bacon wrapped Medjool Dates, Chorizo, Balsamic, Candied Walnuts is great, it’s bigger size but I think AOC‘s still better.

Not sure what this veggie dish is but it was one of the yummiest dish of the night. We got two plate of it. pan fried Foie Gras Sandwich, the foie gras is a bit too burned. I wish it’s just pieces of foie gras and sans the bread.

Grilled Salmon, Cous Cous, Pine Nuts, Dried Cranberries, Wilted Greens. The salmon is alright (not a big fan of grilled salmon), but I love the cous cous! There’s a subtle coconut flavor in them.
Sauteed tiger shrimp with garlic, lemon, white wine, chilies and butter

Paella with Chicken, Tiger Shrimp, Mussels, Chorizo, very good but portion is so small. Steak Frittes, Grilled Skirt Steak, Crisp Haricot Vert, Green Pepper Corn Aoli, very good! We had 2 dishes of this as well.

Fried calamari with fiery arabiatta sauce, very normal…^^;; That’s the thing with big group, some people ought to be more safe in food choice. Chocolate Lava Cake with Winter Citrus, Vanilla Bean Ice Cream.

Warm Bread Pudding with Calvados Caramel, Vanilla Bean Ice Cream is the best one. Sorbet and Chocolate mousee (?). All 3 desserts are really good but they taste rather similar to each other.

    This might be of some interest, the most expensive restaurants in the U.S.:

    All 3 desserts have the same ice-cream??
    Both the foie gras and salmon look burnt. ^^;;;
    But French(Spanish?) is much better to go with a big group than sushi cos you can share many dishes.

    I’m devastated today because my work computer’s hard drive totally broke! U_U It was a faulty drive to begin with, there were problems before and I had asked the IT guys to change it for me few months ago. But I guess they just switch the drive into a different computer. So yesterday it just die! I lost all my files, everything I’ve worked on in IF and all my fonts/materials/textures…gossh…I never back them up before. (I did back up some projects’ files on the server, though not the more recent ones). -__-;;;; Now they’re sending the drive to outside for data recovery, which is $$$, and that’s not 100% gurantee either.

    I totally learn my lesson….I’ll get external harddrives and back up all my stuffs as frequent as possible from now on Y__Y

  4. Wow the food looks great. If you don’t mind, can you tell me the damage? I only hangout at the bars on Abbott Kinney – never eaten at any of the food joints. I love the layout of your food blog – very clean and inviting.

  5. seat says:

    Oh no!! I hope they manage to recover your hard drive!!
    Don’t despair yet. You should be able to get something back if not all.
    Yes, backup is such hassle…and it takes up a lot of memory space, but really a must-do!

  6. RP says:

    Gosh Joan that sucks!!! Hopefully they’ll get your files back!!! Good luck!!! Back up really is a must do, I don’t always do it myself which is taking too much risk!

  7. tomoko says:

    uh-oh!! SO sorry to hear that joan!!
    losing hard drive is a designer’s
    nightmare…-_-|| (is it a mac, by the way?)

  8. Joan says:

    Thank you gals for the support. U_U yeah it’s a mac…they’re so unstable!
    Hopefuly they can get at least half of the stuffs (Especially the recent ones) back. But it really suck that I lost all the frames for one of the jobs I’ve been working on which I like a lot. It’s to be print tomorrow for presentation and I have nothing to show :(!

    I’m thinking of getting the new macbook pro, right now I don’t have a computer at my place so I have to borrow my dad’s laptop. I can’t wait to get my own but the macbook is still too new. It’s a bit risky to get the first batch. ^^;;

  9. tomoko says:

    ohhhhh the new macs have “INTEL INSIDE”!!!!
    brrrrrrr…..|||(-0-;;)
    as a ex-mac user I’m quite frightened!!!
    never imagined I’d say this, but I’ll probably just get a PC from now on (unless I need a mac for work)^^;;….
