Birthday cake pre-ordered for a friend. It is white chocolate mousse with raspberry. Fresh herb tea. Petit fours. Soybean and endive root pudding. Pastry crisp with pumpkin seed and pumpkin paste.

My first visit here. The friend who arranged this lunch party is a big fan of this restaurant, so he always picks this place whenever we gather for someone's birthday. I like the birthday cake and the main dish more this time, but the appetizers are not as good as last time.

Have been wanting to try this restaurant for the longest time and in fact I booked this place twice before, but both times I ended up having to cancel the bookings due to a change in schedule. Finally I managed to eat there and the quality didn't disappoint at all! Every dish is so delicious and delicate-tasting. Some dishes are quite Kyoto style with Ankake(starchy sauce) and using ingredients from Kyoto. 5250yen for this 10-course meal is really amazing in value. The restaurant is small and is at the basement. The interior is kinda modern Japanese dining feel. Very convenient location as it is like just across the road from Ebisu station. Definitely want to go back again when the menu is renewed.

Very cute cafe restaurant which is also a goldfish store. The food is quite standard, nothing really stands out but it is decent for a relaxing lunch. Don't mind having the very soft simmered pork again.

B.B.Q. back ribs(pork) with T.Y. original bourbon B.B.Q. sauce, garlic and cheese fries, 2000yen. So huge!! My friend who used to live in U.S. for many years said this is not even close to "half-size" portion there. I am sure it depends where you go, cos I've never seen a really scary portion during my trip to US. Anyway, the pork is a bit dry. I wanted beef steak but lunch menu has very limited options. The fries and side salad are good though.

David' s NY cheesecake, 500yen. I was so stuffed from the pork but I wanted to try the desserts so two of us shared this. I was expecting hard type of cheese cake(my image of NY cheesecake) but this one is very soft, more like the Japanese souffle cheesecake.

The pork was a bad choice, but my friend's sandwich lunch(1500yen) seemed good. Not bad value for money considering I didn't need dinner that day!

N.B. It is under the same management as here and here. I prefer these two restaurants but they are more expensive.

Famous Anmitsu place that has a couple of branches. This one in Ueno is the original shop. The ice-cream/soft-cream are all very nice that I always can't resist ordering extra scoop. The big rectangular chunk in the middle is red bean paste. Slightly sweet compared to other anmitsu places but I really like it.

Everything is very good in this place. The red bean, the ice-cream, the shiratama, the mochi are all so nice that any combination is great. After many visits, my favourite is actually the simple cream shiratama zenzai, but first-timer should definitely try the standard cream anmitsu. Oden is surprisingly good too.

Tried this French restaurant that opened last year after hearing quite positive reviews from friends. The food didn't disappoint! Lunch course I had was 3000yen; there is also a 2500yen lunch course which serves the daily soup instead of appetizer. There are a few choices for the appetizers, but for the main dish, you can either choose fish or meat. Limited choice is fine for cheaper weekday lunch, but I went on a weekend and I did wish they had more options for the main. There is no service charge and tax is included in the price so the value is not bad. Glass wine is 840yen. The foie gras terrine is one of the best I've had recently and it is even better than more expensive places. The main and the dessert are both very decent. Definitely will go back for dinner!

Sushi cheap eat place near Okachimachi station. There are a few sushi shops on the same little alley - I've tried "Sushi Ko", and also "Kappa sushi"(no pics) which is very cheap at lunch time(2 for the price of 1) but I thought the fish didn't taste fresh.

Thick slice of fish, good-for-the-price quality sushi near Okachimachi station. Seems quite popular as it is always packed with people when other sushi shops nearby are pretty empty. The atmosphere is casual and lively inside. The chef told me many tourists visit this shop and his eyes are trained well to tell the difference between Chinese, Korean and Japanese. Well he guessed that I was Korean....^^;;;

Very casual restaurant(more like drinking place) serving Okinawa food and awamori. Might need to share tables when it is busy. Food is very homecooked feel - not so salty and greasy - strangely though I felt insanely thirsty afterwards. I really like the fried rice noodles and the Okinawa soba. 3 of us shared all the food and drinks; we had one soba each and were stuffed to our throats, about 4000yen per person.

Singaporean "carrot cake". It is actually radish cake stir-fried with egg and chilli sauce.
Sangria with mango juice - rather expensive cocktail(850yen) which tastes just okay. Also ordered a grapefruit alcohol drink(650yen) which, to my disappointment, came in a bottle! Better stick with beer next time...

All the food are very nice! I especially loved the radish cake, Roti Prata and fried noodles. I've been to lunch at the original restaurant near Roppongi(entry here) and Hainan chicken rice was terrible. But in this Ebisu branch, the same chicken rice was very good! I am not sure if it is the difference between lunch and dinner, or Ebisu and Roppongi. Overall the taste is a bit strong/salty - which is of course the universal strategy to make you order more drinks. Environment and service are good. Price is reasonable(except those fancy cocktails). 3 of us shared all the food plus drinks, less than 4000yen per person.

Very popular Indian restaurant in Ginza. You can only reserve a table for around 6:30pm on a weekday - later than that they don't take reservations and you must wait outside. The queue was crazy when we went on a Thurs evening. The food is nice, but not sure if it is worth queuing for. Taste-wise it is very very mild in general - the Chicken Keema curry is supposed to be one of the hottest item but it isn't really that spicy. The naan with raisin and nuts is interesting but doesn't go with curry - nice on its own though. All the food are shared between 3 people, plus drinks(not that much), about 4000yen each. Not incredibly good value I would say. The dinner and party course seems to be a better deal.

This Taiwanese-style(?) tea cafe has a variety of flavoured tea options and you can choose either Assam or Jasmine. For milk tea, Assam is nicer(well of course). The Matcha cappuccino is pretty gross so stick with Assam or Jasmine. Masala chai is very good. If the tea didn't cost as much as 400yen a cup, I wouldn't mind trying more flavours...

The Panini sandwiches are nice - I guess it is you-can-make-at-home quality but oh well I don't have a Panini-press toaster. Soft tacos has tomato, lettuce, onion and mince curry in it but I am sure the tacos was microwaved. Fake Vietnamese banana dessert was bad. They have some simple rice menu at lunch time but they don't look so good so I didn't try.
