In a town that has no shortage of Korean BBQ restaurants, Palsaik Samgyupsal is the “IT” spot in Koreatown now. Palsaik means 8 colors and Samgyupsal means bacon. The interior is slick and modern with big screen TVs playing Kpop music video. In fact the last time (2 months ago) I went they kept looping PSY’s Gangnam Style on the TV. The vibe is youthful and friendly (aka it’s ok you don’t speak Korean).
Palsaik is known for their special marinated Pork Belly. They offer a 8 flavors pork belly set for $49.99 which is enough food for 4 people as it came with soup and fried rice. The 8 flavors are: Wine, Original, Ginseng, Garlic, Herb, Curry, Miso and Red Pepper paste.
They have a special grill that’s tilted so the fat from the pork belly would dribble down in to a hole. Our server cooked and cut the pork into pieces for us too.
I enjoy the different flavors and like some better than others. I liked Garlic, herb, miso and original. You get little dishes of thin slices of pickled radish, pepper salt in oil and red pepper sauce on the side to go with the meat. Each table also has a big bowl of salad on the side too.
The pork belly set came with this seafood soup as well as kimchi fried rice at the end. So like I said, there’re plenty food for a group of people. I was so full by the meat that I only had a bit of the soup and rice.
Great place overall, good meat and flavors, it’s a great addition to the hopping Korea town. A good alternative from my other favorite Korean BBQ place like Honey Pig and Park’s BBQ.
