061103 050金沢和音(池袋東武): かぼちゃ餅(道明寺)、つき餅(つぶあん)、栗大福。
Pumpkin mochi(pumpkin paste inside), Tsuki mochi(mochi freshly made from rice-pounding, lightly salted red bean on top), and chestnut daifuku. All are sticky and nice. The two mochi have harder texture while the daifuku has very soft skin.

A very popular Japanese sweet which gets sold out quickly – people queue up outside the shop before it opens apparently. The fresh ones are probably only sold in the original shop in Ginza, but my friend got the packed version in a department store. The matcha taste is so strong and bitter, which I like a lot, the texture is smooth and sticky.

粟だんご。大福。
Dango with corn paste on top is nice, very sticky and chewy. Daifuku with red bean paste is okay.

栗雅楽: 栗餡を二層のしぐれで包み込んだ。
嘉千栗: 蜜漬けした栗を栗きんとんで包んだ。
Two sweets made from chestnuts. Not really my favourite…

扇屋
More chestnut sweets. The one on the left has chestnut paste and red bean inside, better than the one on the right, which I can’t recall the taste at all…

Quite a famous shop for dorayaki in Tokyo. I really like it and have had it quite a few times but never blogged it properly here. This time I got the very cute rabbit manju as well, which has smooth red bean paste inside. Dorayaki is better. ^^;;

Warabi-mochi and steamed chestnut youkan(sweet bean jelly cake). Seems like a popular Japanese sweet shop. First impression – very expensive. But I was soon blown away by the elegant taste. Warabi-mochi is unlike any I have tried before – soft and light and wobbly jelly texture with strong black sugar flavour, inside is very smooth bean paste. This thing practically melts in your mouth. Not being a big fan of youkan, I find the steamed chestnut youkan absolutely delicious! Not too sweet – that is very important – with big pieces of chestnuts. The bean cake is smooth and soft. But what really impresses me is the matsukaze(松風), which is slightly sticky steamed cake with black sugar and…soy sauce!! The combination of the sweet bean cake and salty sponge…is just perfect!

梅むら (Umemura)

060727 009.jpg豆かんてん、450円。Peas and kanten and honey. The kanten is very soft. Nice simple taste, though I got tired halfway…should have ordered one with fruits and ice-cream etc. Seems like a very popular place, many came in just to take-away. Most of the people ordered what I ordered so I guess that is the most popular item.
