Bruno’s (Santa Monica)

16: Santa Monica | July 30th, 2007 by Freda

DSC04088.JPGMy co-worker took us to this hole-in-the-wall Italian place . It’s her most favorite neighborhood restaurant that she almost regretted introducing me here after finding out I’d be blogging it. ;D The vibe is warm and hearty, and the servings are huge!

Carbonara. Very good~ Perfectly mixed eggs and cream, very rich but not overtly heavy and cakery.

The wonderful Cesar Salad is authentic classic style with egg yolk dressing (hence a slimey quality that I absolutely LOVE). Perfectly salted and peppered. I forgot the name of this spaghetti (too occupied with the Carbonara).

I’m impressed by the salad as much as the pasta. Garden Salad is delicious~ The photo on the right …I also forgot its name, a huge stuffed pocket Lasagne type with cheese. So-so.

Carbonara and Caesar salad made you happy cos they had eggs in them~, haha.

Now if the place gets crowded, your co-worker is going to blame you! XD!

Steph: I think there is a Chowhound post somewhere in which it says that this is not the same Bruno’s that was in Mar Vista. I remember that old place fondly, but the food in the pics also doesn’t look much like what the old Bruno’s used to serve.

Hey Steph and Rico, I didn’t know that this is Bruno’s new location, or was it the same Bruno’s?

Hey David, so I had it wrong whenever I cooked carbonara…^^;; (i added cream).

yes seat, I’m still an egg addict for some reason…haha

I’m posting a email I got from the website to clarify the two Bruno’s mix up.

    From George:
Glad to hear you like the food at Bruno’s. I’m Bruno’s web designer, just posted a website for Bruno in August http://www.brunossantamonica.com.
Bruno has been at his Santa Monica location for about 20 years, nothing to do with the Bruno’s in Mar Vista.
If you want something made a certain way, Bruno will accommodate you, just ask!

    Thanks George!
