Supper (Philadelphia)

By in 11: Philadelphia, Favorite Food Entries

As I mentioned before Philadelphia’s dining scene is full of BYOB and small plate/tapas places. Supper seems to be just another one, but they’re also known for their breakfast. Moreover their menu sounds fun: classic American (grits, waffle) with multi-cultural fusion, not unlike Matyson but with a more casual flair .

Supper

We sat next to the open kitchen, and the chef asked me why I’m taking photos of the food. 🙂

The bread is soft and fresh, very good! I can tell their breakfast must be GOOD. Sweet Potato Soup with Cinnamon Marshmallow, Apples & Sage. 8. As you see from the ingredients, the flavor leaned toward the sweet side. It’s almost like a dessert.

Supper

From the Hor d’Oeuvres menu: Soft Pretzels with Green Chile-and-Beer Fondue. Soft Pretzels is popular in Philly. It’s light and soft, yum!

Supper

Roasted Marrow Bones with Shallot Marmalade, Parsley Salad, Sea Salt, Lemon & Toasts. It smells wonderful~ The marrow bone is like an oily gelatin, like a very tenderly cooked tendon. The garnish are both sweet and salty. With the acidic lemon, this dish is surprisingly strong tasting.

Supper

Duck and Waffles: Crispy Cofit Duck Lg with Pecan Sage Waffle, Red Cabbage and Maple Bourbon Jus. Wow it is so sweet. But the taste is interesting, albeit the sweet overpowered the savory. I enjoyed it a lot though.

Supper

Spice Crusted Tuna. My friend’s fish dish.

Supper

Their dessert menu are American classics as well (Apple Cobbler, Bread Pudding, etc). We got the Maple Panna Cotta with bourban soaked Cranberries & Bacon Cookies. Again there’s the twist of sweet vs savory, but it is done in a much more subtle way than the meal. The texture is so smooth…I love this so much!

SupperSupper

Banana Bread Pudding with Nutella & Vanilla Bean Ice Cream. Yum! Complimentary cookies.

There isn’t much subtlety in their flavors but the whole dinner was a very pleasant experience. I felt like a kid again with my sweet tooth satisfied even in savory dishes. Their dishes are almost like a “kidault’ interpretation of modern American cuisine.
