Since there’s no English signage out front, it’s easy to drive pass Soban, a great little joint in Koreatown features Korean home cooking dishes. When we arrived according to the address, we weren’t sure if it’s the right place until we stepped in. The interior is small, bright and modern.

Soban is known for serving a large amount of banchan (side dishes). Knowing that beforehand, we were careful to only order one dish to share for the two of us.

We order the Galbi Jjim – braised Beef short rib, along with rice. It was quite large and the two of us couldn’t finish it. The short ribs were really tender and flavorful. The broth is soy sauce based with a lot of garlic, ginger and chilies. There are also plenty red dates which gave sweetness to the broth.

As much as I enjoy the Galbi Jjim, I wish we could have order another dish as it got a bit one note. It’s probably better to have more than 2 people to share more dishes.
