Paris Pastry (Westwood)

//// By in 11: West LA

DSC03299.jpgA friend of ours gave us these pastries from his favorite childhood French bakery Paris Pastry. The box saids Boulangerie Patisserie since 1962, it’s an old time neighborhood favorite. The cakes are delicious, more delicate tasting than they look. Wonderful!

Auntie Em’s Kitchen (Eagle rock)

//// By in 03: Eagle Rock

DSCN9721.jpg
Jon’s friend from Brooklyn is in town so we took her to the charming Auntie Em’s Kitchen for brunch. Previous entry 1,2. We got there at around 11:30 and there’s a bit of a queue. I got the special tarte (the last piece) with spinach, Gruyere, shitake mushroom and red bell pepper. It’s very good. Fresh ingredients, the flavors blend really well together.

Open Faced Breakfast Sandwiches: Brie and Tomato and Portobello Mushroom & Roasted Red Peppers. Our friend from Brooklyn love this place a lot, especially the patio with sunshine.

Btw I heard from my friend that the owner used to be in a punk band called…Red Aunts (he’s a fan and overheard the owner yelling for an order and recognize immediately). That explains the red walls, the ‘auntie’…:D

Patisserie Chantilly (Lomita)

//// By in 17: South Bay

We went back to the far far away Patisserie Chantilly at Lomita (see previous entry). It’s now our must stop whenever we were in the South Bay area.

DSC03215.jpgDSC03213.jpg
Cheesecake (light sour cheese, very delicate tasting yet cheesy, amazing!) and Mont Blanc (rich and sweet marron taste, so good, wish it were bigger portion).

DSC03218.jpgWe got a box of Black Sesame and Vanilla cream puffs to go. They’re huge and looked so delectable and beautiful! However they’re a bit overbaked. Otherwise the cream is very good.

Now I’ve tried a few cream puffs in LA, I think my favorite is Angel Maid, they were bite size, light puff, really good when eaten fresh and the cream is flavorful.

Little Next Door (West Hollywood)

//// By in 09: Weho

Little Next Door is a newly opened market/deli/bakery/cafe literally next door to the fine dining restaurant Little Door. We went there for breakfast (the Brie & Black Truffle Omelette sounds good) but we got there too late. I’ll make sure I arrive before 12 next time.
DSC03280.jpgDSC03265.jpg
The irresistable vintage Parisian flair high ceiling interior got an entire wall of wine on one side. The staffs all wore perhaps the coolest outfit ever. The coffee is very good~
DSC03275.jpg
The deli section offers pates, terrine, and other savory delights such as this cream egg. You can order a basket of bread with the terrains too.
DSC03267.jpgDSC03271.jpg
I wanted the Foie Gras Sandwich but they were out. 🙁 We got the mediterranean flair Ahi Tuna Tartar with Hummus and fennel Pita Sandwich and Duck Terrine on Baguette. Everything taste good and fresh.
DSC03276.jpgThe bakery and pastry section is full of mouth-watering baked goods. The Le Dome is delicious, airy cake and mousse inside, though not as delicate as it could have looked. There’re tons of things on the menu and deli I’d love to try. Most staffs seem to speak French, it felt like Little Paris inside. ^^;;

Beverly Soon Tofu (Koreatown)

//// By in 07: Mid-Wilshire

Right across from So Kong Dong is another acclaimed soon tofu place called Beverly Soon Tofu (it’s on Olympic though!). It’s good to eat this hot bowl of fluffy tofu before weather turns hot.

Beef, oyster and clam and Seafood combo. What a huge difference medium spice and mild level made, look wise. Taste wise as well, the spicier the better. Though I think I prefer the soup over at So Kong Dong which was more flavorful. But this place’s interior is definitely nicer. They also have soon tofu sets you can order with beef bugogi/grilled octopus/bibimbap, etc.
