Axe (Abbot Kinney)

//// By in 15: Venice

I passed by this minimalistic place hidden behind shrubbery on Abbot Kinney many times without ever noticing it. It’s a Californian cuisine, the place is crowded with yuppie westside crowd.

Basic Rice Bowl with Eggs $11. These ‘rice bowl’ are basically the same as Vietnamese Bun Bowl except it’s brown rice instead of rice noodle. The sauce is the same lime fish sauce (but far more $$ than a usual bowl of bun ^^;;). It’s loaded with many types of veggie, all very fresh~

The walls are blank minimal white, but the shadow of the plants outside cast lots of interesting shapes on the wall, very nice~

Larchmont Village Wine Spirits & Cheese (Larchmont)

//// By in 07: Mid-Wilshire

It was raining and I wasn’t aware my camera lens was wet ^^;

Prosciutto + Mozzarella on Baguette and Sopressata Salami + Spanish Machengo cheese on Ciabatta
DSC02723.jpgI’ve heard recommendations for the sandwiches from the deli inside this wine and cheese store. They made it very fast on order right in front of you. Very fresh. The baguette was crispy, airy and Ciabatta is chewy and soft, very nice! The order came with delcious olive and pickles.

Phillips Bar-B-Que (Centinela)

//// By in 11: West LA

My colleagues from NY is a big fan of BBQ, he read glowing reviews of this place.

Beef Rib (mild sauce), very messy but the meat is very tender and juicy. The sauce was a bit overloaded and simple tasting (not as smokey as I’d like). Maybe the hot level would be better? I think I’d enjoy it more without sauce. The potoato salad is very good.

My friend’s Shredded Pork Sandwich, the meat was dried and hard. It’s take out only.

Pizzeria Mozza (Highland)

//// By in 07: Mid-Wilshire

Still clearing old 2nd (or more) visit posts. Remember Joan wrote about the new sensation in town Mozza awhile ago. Since then whenever we called to make reservation, it’s always ‘the next table available is after midnight’ kind of answer. One day, we just charged in there at 3 o’ clock hoping to get some bar seats. Luckily there were two~

Sparkling Pomegranate and Duck Liver Bruschetta (very rich and heavy, good!)

Joan ordered the same pizza, while I tried this Egg, Guanciale (salted pork cheek), radicchio and Bagna Cauda (anchovy spread). I LOVE It! It came in un-sliced to preserve the egg yolk from running all over. After the initial presentation we still asked them to cut for us ^^;;. So many flavors and it might get salty after more bites.

Can’t help for a picture of the nice semi-raw egg! ^^b The photo I took of the interior was a MIRACLE…half empty!? It is possible afterall! The time was 4:15pm in the afternoon and still there were new customers came in nonstop.

Angel Maid Bakery (Centinela)

//// By in 11: West LA

DSC02753.jpg
I ordered a Raspberry Cake from this little bakery on Centinela Angel Maid Bakery (see my old entry) for my mother’s birthday. It is absolutely wonderful: lightly sweet, raspberry flavor taste fresh, airy mousse top with many ‘layers’ of cake beneath, the bottom chocolate sponge cake layer was soaked with sauce.
