My favorite Thai eaterie Ruin Pair in Thai Town is remodeling in an indefinite state…T__T So we’re going to its neighbor  Red Corner Asia.

Spicy Raw Shrimp with Lime Juice, the sauce a bit thin or else it would have been very tasty. The shrimp are big~

Tom Yum Noodle is so so. Duck Noodle Soup is delicious! The soup is not as rich as Ruin Pair but still very good.

Went back another night! We got these Giant Shrimp, oh my they were indeed GIANT, almost lobster like~ The creamy sauce is very tasty. Also got the Green Curry, yum! These two meals at Red Corner Asia gave me a much better impression. Big menu, a good, clean, big place always with seats on busy nights.

Eight Cafe – Guilin Mifen (Monterey Park)

Chrysanthemum Tea & huge plate of Thousand Year Old Egg.
DSC01445.jpgThere are more and more regional Chinese eateries in LA. My friend told me about this hole-in-the-wall noodle house in Monterey Park that can eat Guilin Mifen (Rice Noodle from the southern Chinese province). Their noodle are famous for being very smooth. I remember eating it long ago when I was a child traveling with family there. I got the Dried Rice Noodle with Simmered beef, DELICIOUS! The beef are tender and very flavored (especially the tendon parts). the long beans are pickled, peanuts fried and sweet glazed. The sauce is spiced + vinegar + soysauce with tons of garlic. Unfortunately I was sick that day (went to see doctor just before) and I cannot eat any stimulating food. I have to resist myself not ordering any of the chili items nor reaching my hand to the many bottles of tempting looking chili sauce. I bought a pack of Guilin noodle later in market and tried to make this myself.

A deli, neighborhood cafe place with lovely European country interior. The Salmon pasta was…homemade tasting and quite oily.

Went to the much hyped Banksy show barely Legal over the weekend. Banksy is an UK graffiti artist/public prankster who’s known for humorous/political graffiti in cities and prank stunts (ex: sneak in his own paintings and hang them next to other artworks in famous museums, switch out Paris Hilton’s album with his own remix…etc etc). The show was held in a warehouse at Downtown LA for 3 days. I went on Saturday with Jonathan and Sunday again with Freda. Both times we were lucky enough to beat the crowd and just walk right in without queueing.

Everyone is talking about the large, live, painted elephant in the show. This red and gold elephant is definitely NOT ignored (based on the English idiom “Elephant in the room”: an obvious truth that is being ignored). There were kids and families there aweing it as if it’s the zoo or something. Of course such “animal cruelty” angered many, due to complaints/pressure the elephant wasn’t painted on Sunday. Cruelty or not aside, in my opinion it’s less effective without the paint which mirrored the painted wall paper on the walls next to the elephant.
