I found that Bistro L’Hermitage is quite near where I work so I drove out there for lunch. MY GOD that little place is fullhouse (mostly from Sony?) and still only ONE waiter working the place. I waited 10 minutes for menu. The bread is dramatically downsized compare to weekend. 🙁 “A Cheval” Ham & Swiss & Sunny-side eggs Sandwich $12, it is just like a Croque Madam…normal… The baquette are grilled so golden and crispy. Too big though, I’d prefer it half (and half that price) ^^lll

Haha just got the link from Vero. Very funny! Definitely check out the commercials! (I think the whole thing is actually an Ikea campaign in the UK?)
Happy New Year!

HAPPY NEW YEAR~ It’ll take awhile to get used to using ‘2005’ (actually I was constantly confused whether last year was 03 or 04…as if unconsciously I’ve always wanted the time to freeze)!
Two cakes from a local Taiwanese bakery chain Cathy Bakery. The Raspberry one is a birthday cake for my mother (Jan 1 is her birthday!), the yellow one is for a party. This local chain wasn’t known for quality in both decoration and taste since it debut about 10 years ago; they’re like the usual chinese bakeries that has no personality, nor design and refinement. But in recent years there are more and more new Chinese cake shops (RJ, JJ, etc.) opening that are more and more like cute Japanese cake shops. Probably feeling the pressures from these competitors Cathy Bakery finally gave themselves a complete make over (even their boxes are re-designed). Now their cakes look pretty good but still the taste are blah~~ The raspberry one is so fake tasting, and seems to have some numbing effect on my tongue…geez…

Finally tried Xiomara, the more upscale sister restaurant to one of our favorites: Atlantic Cafe. But unlike Atlantic which was strictly Cuban, Xiomara is a fusion of French, Spanish, Cuban and Asian cusine. They don’t open for lunch during weekends and their dinner is too expensive for me to afford without feeling meat pain so I’m glad for the hoilday which allow me to try their weekday lunch menu. The bread comes with black bean paste. The quiche looking thing is a free appetizer (with olive pate, egg and some mixed-sautee peppers on the side). Very yummy! Great start!

Bistro du Soleil (Playa del Rel)
//// By Freda in 14: Marina del Rey![]()
Two days worth of lunch back at the Sun Bistro. I have to work post-Christmas (only Joan got holiday). Despite I said their food are no good last time, their cozy all-wood interior is too nice so I tend to go there for lunch break. They have this $8 soup du jour + salad combo so I can anticipate different soup each day. ^^;; Again their problem is the lack of subtlety: either taste too strong, too salty and intense or absolutely no taste. Right: Zucchini soup with a touch of curry Left: Cream of Mushroom. The soups are very thick and stomach-filling. The strong taste satisfied the “salty-bug” in me ^^;;
The tsunami catastrophe in Southern Asia are absolutely horrifying. I will never look at beach and seaside town the same ever again…
