Weather is so HOT today, gosh just a week ago it was freezing. On the left: Playa del Rel beach is quite ugly; the sand is dirty brown color. Right: found this giant spine display in front of a Chiropractic clinic at Manhanttan Beach town. 😀
Musha (Santa Monica)
//// By Joan in 16: Santa Monica, Favorite Food EntriesHad a wonderful evening with Yan at Musha, an Izakaya (Japanese pub) place located in Santa Monica. The interior is more fancy and designy than their original branch in Torrance, which has lots of Japanese business men and ojisans there. According to Yan the menus are slightly different (Torrance’s better?). They both are really crowded and noisy, i.e. waiters shouting in Japanese constantly, and offer interesting creative dishes. Drinks: Plum Soju and Grapefruit soju, White wine in the back.

Chesse Tofu with Honey What an interesting dishes! I love the cheese tofu, it taste very delicious with the honey. The spicy red little beads (don’t know what they are) made the taste extraordinary.

Spicy tuna on rice cracker The spicy tuna taste a bit normal, good with the rice cracker though.

Yakiniku The little coal stove is cute! Almost every table order it so the whole place is very smokey.

I don’t know what you call it with the fire gun burning the surface skin of the raw fish into cripsy layer (I’ve only had it when I was in Japan at the welcome party) ^^;; Yummy of course~~

Clam Udon with mushroom in creamy sauce A bit normal, but tasty nonetheless.

Anmitsu and Creme Burlee, normal, but not much other choices anyways. The final bill was about $80 (tips and tax included) for 3 people.
Saw this funny poster at the female restroom!! We almost asked just to see who’s Hideo~~ Notice “inprove” is misspelled 😛
Banyan (Manhattan Beach)

From friday lunch. We spotted this Indonesian restaurant while driving. The decor is very beautiful~ Brightly lit, gorgeous paintings, bamboo screen and furnitures, and a huge mural collage of a movie (?) scene of an Indonesian temple with lots of naked men…so weird ^^;;; I like the fork and table cloth!

White: Almond Milk Tea, Pink: Susu Soda (rose syrup), $2.75 each. The rose syrup drink smell and taste like perfume… ^^;; The crispy things are free appertizer, there’re sweet lotus seed paste inside.

Research is the key. I found this supposedly Cal-French restaurant (more like American), even though it’s listed as $$$, they have casual business lunch menu. The place looks sophisticated, the waiters dressed in black silk and all…but they were playing lame-ass pop songs ^^;; They gave us bread (good) and olives (too soaked and mushy). The egg-shaped Shrek ears olive oil jar is interesting, there’s another layer inside holding the herbs. But it’s all in one-piece.

Left (not mine): Salmon Enchilada $9.95 Sauteed Salmon in corn tortilla with chipotle sauce, swiss chard. The salmon is a bit too cook for my taste, and really I told him not to order Mexican fusion in a sorta French place ^^;; Right: Mine. Duck Meatloaf with raspberry merlot sauce and garlic mashed potatoes $11.50 Smokey and light, tasty sauce, great! 😀 The meatloaf has rosemary, red bell pepper, onion…and more (can’t tell ^^;;;)

Drove out to the nearby Manhattan Beach today, it is beautiful~ It’s a beautiful day and so nice to see the ocean. There’re lots of cute shops and nice beach houses. We venture inside this Greek cafe called Old Venice as a random pick. Unfortunately it suck (stepped on land mine right away). ^^;; Sausage Sandwich $5 Not mine. Gyro in Pita wraps with Greek Salad $8 Gyro is lamb + beef sausage and felt so stuffy and fatterning. The cream cheese is gross tasting. The portion is way too big, I ate couple bites and that’s it. Anyway we’re going to try every restaurant there.
