New Concept (Monterey Park)

By in 01: San Gabriel

A fairly new and popular dim-sum place to try! It is crowded and long waiting lines as usual.

The Curry Squid was very bad (the fishballs are really ghetto HK street venders quality). And most disappointing of all, they didn’t have the pan-fried radish cake as regular menu (only the steam kind). That is my MUST-have.

It is Abalone inside the lotus leaf sticky rice.

Overall the dim sum dishes are quite unique, and generally taste pretty good, but a bit too oily. In comparison, Mission 261‘s dim sum quality are finer and more delicate.

    Is that porridge in the bowl??

    Haha, dim sum is supposed to be oily! ^^;;;

    The buns are egg custard cream ,right? I miss those~~

    Yeah Egg custard cream, always the ones with yellow dot, it’s my favorite and must have dim sum dish too.
    That was the steamed radish cake in the bowl…taste like porridge ^^;;; I was too spoiled by the other dim sum place we always go that was not that oily and more refine quality, so I was instantly hit with the “oh yeah, this is the real oily chinese food…” ^^;;

    “new concept” is an interesting name for a dim-sum place!
    I only remember places with numbers for names (ie 888) ^^

  4. Freda says:

    It is exactly the name that hyped me up, thinking their menu will be all creative and innovative dishes…but then turns out not really (though there are stuff like “Soda-pop chicken” ^^;;).

    They have more creatvie stuffs for the dinner menu, I ate there once but the pictures turn out blurry, and we ordered rather normal stuffs). I’ll try to go again to get more picture worthy interesting stuffs!
