Via Cafe (Chinatown)

//// By in 06: Downtown LA

DSC09189.jpgFried Tofu and Mushroom. LA’s Chinatown is a lot like Little Saigon really these days, with many good Pho and Vietnamese restaurants. In recent years it’s also invaded by hipsters. Via Cafe is such union. There’s always a crowd of hipster kids hanging outside, or admiring their friends’ paintings inside. It’s located next to the designer toy store Munky King. The food are pretty good, traditional Vietnamese sandwich + pho + drink (with Taiwanese boba), the friendly all-asian youth appeal cafe food that can’t go wrong, plus artsy vibe (BGM that day was Jane Birkin :D) and cool looking people.

Schat’s (Mammoth & Bishop)

//// By in 05: US Other

DSC09385.jpgI think everyone who’s ever been to Mammoth will pay a visit to Schat’s Bakery. The original shop is at a small town at the bottom of mountain called Bishop, but they opened one up at Mammoth. I heard that in popular times there’re always lines. However when I’m there it was empty. It’s packed with Bakery goodies: cookies, jam, danish, bread, donut, bagel, dried fruits, etc

Mammoth’s (managed by the brother):

Bread Clam Chowder soup!

Got my pear fix: Dried Pear (a bit hard on the edge) and Pear Danish (very yum!). Their dried apple is delicious: airy and cottony, feel so nice~

The original Eric Schat’s Bakery at Bishop, which packed with more stuffs than the Mammoth branch.

A MUST go destination when you leave Mammoth, to bring home some loafs of bread (they only sell loaf size). They hang Dutch wood clogs from the ceilng 😀

I bought a loaf of Chilli Chesse Bread, Olive Bread and bunch of cookies (soooo good!). The Chilli Cheese bread (with jelepino) is so good~ (I don’t have tin foil so it was burnt :(). I assume they do mostly tourists business and their bakeries became almost an attraction.

Cooking @ Mammoth

//// By in 05: US Other

Since we have a beautiful and well-stocked kitchen and plenty of cooks, we cooked some of our dinners. 😀

The neatly put inside of the burrito is obviously not mine (which was a bursting mess).
DSC09373.jpgDSC09372.jpg
The star of them all: the Portobello Mushroom, so good~
DSC09371.jpgMartha made Burritos for us, I never knew all that work went into a seemingly simple food. It was delicious.

Snowboard @ Mammoth

//// By in Travel

Day 1: For someone who has never ski nor snowboard in her entire life, it just so happen that I went on a day with blizzards and white out. I kept asking for reassureance from my companions, “is this really truly suitable for snowboarding?” They were giving me muddling answers. ^^;;; But I cannot give up after I paid over $100 for an private instructor and chair lift ticket…

This is the Main Lodge area, the largest all the chair lifts and ski slopes in Mammoth.

Angel’s (Mammoth Lake)

//// By in 05: US Other

Up on Mammoth, it’s mostly ski lodge food: red meat, burgers, BBQ ribs…etc. type of big hearty meal ^^;; But in cold weather they’re perfect comfort food. This place reminds me of the place next to our office back in LA, except this one is much better~~

Raspberry cider.

What a pleasant surprise! They have scones as ‘premeal bread’, and the butter is very light, creamy honey sweet butter, so good! Right: an appertizer sampler, so-so.

Here’s the real deal: their smoked pork BBQ rib is their signature item. The pork was quite fat but tender and juicy. Though it’s their BBQ sauce that made it exceptional.
