Han Bat Shul Lung Tang (Koreatown)

//// By in 07: Mid-Wilshire

Ah Joan has fallen in this flu season and still not recover yet. We wanted to eat light at K-town and Shul lung tang is the answer. Yan brought us to this Shul lung tang-only place nearby our house (I would have never found it myself). It’s basically beef bone broth, with your choice of beef meat and glass noodle. We got brisket and flank. It came with the usual kimchi and pickled radish, and you spiced it up with hot sauce, green onion and salt. It’s light, tasty and good comfort food. The soups were brought out 2 mins after we ordered, prefect for hungry quick fix. I heard that such places are popular for late nighters (especially after drink). The place was bare mom-and-pops and the customers were all old people, and it’s tricky to find as the parking is at the back side without signs. Add: 4136 W. 5th St LA, CA 90020

M Cafe de Chaya

//// By in 09: Weho

Although this Japanese-fusion Macrobiotic place is Joan’s frequent workday lunch spot, this is my first time. 😀 Even though it was weekend but I met Joan’s IF co-workers there~ (so it IS their favorite eatery).

The much acclaimed Ahi-Tuna salad is delicious (citrus ponzu sauce?
The lotus root adds a lot!) and Strawberry cake (fresh strawberries and surprisingly pleasant soy and grain tasting ^^;;).

M Chaya Chopped, follow the no-tomato macrobiotic rule, they have shallots instead. This place reminds me of a California fusion version of Souen (and here). I missed NYC~

Bell Pepper Spaghetti and Pork Salad

//// By in Food: Kitchen

DSC09135.jpgI’m under the bell peppers fad right now and always craved it for some reason. Taking cues from the penne I had in last entry, we made the 3 Colors bell pepper with White Wine, garlic and onion. Every bite is just bursting with sweetness and light flavors, very good~ Though the spaghetti was a bit overcooked this time.
DSC09131.jpgPork carrot onion salad with lime juice and apple vinegar. I got this recipe from a spa magazine, it’s supposedly good for reduce stress. The pork was overcooked :(, and the carrot was sliced so ugly. After cooking these two dishes, our house smelled of onion for days~~~ ;o;

The Bowery (Sunset Blvd)

//// By in 08: Hollywood

DSCN7266.jpgAnother recently open hang out/eatery joint amongst the Sunset and Vine neighbourhood development. It’s right next to Magnolia. Like Magnolia, it’s more of a bar/lounge (the bar takes up half the space) but they open for lunch with a limited menu. I got the Salad Trio: truffled chicken salad, potato dijon salad, shrimp salad with slices of baguette. I like all 3 and was glad that they taste different from each other. The truffle flavor is strong so it made the chicken salad unique tasting. It’s quite a good walking distance workday lunch spot. Worthy to go back to try their other stuffs.

Cafe Penguini (Playa del Rey)

//// By in 14: Marina del Rey

I’ve been super busy at work, so me and my team can only afford to eat at walking distance places (and there aren’t much choice…err…). Back to this pasta place.

I have the Penne Siciliana arrabbiata (tomatoes basil, eggplant, red and yellow bell peppers, garlic and spicy tomato sauce), love the taste but I’m never a fan of Penne no matter how good it is. I regretted it, but I was tempted by the bell peppers…

The other two pictures are my teammates’, Clam white wine sauce and Capellini with fresh chopped tomatoes, basil and extra virgin olive oil, the person who has it said the tomatoes are very fresh, both are very good. It’s good that I have nice lunches, I didn’t have dinner almost every night when working late, partly my own fault because I don’t feel like leaving the office at night…rather get work done as much as possible.

From another lunch day. The Bolognese is…not bad~ quite fresh!
