Petite Abeille (NYC: Chelsea)

DSC08595.jpgI heard that there was a Belgian food boom in NYC awhile back but it has faded. I first walked by Petite Abeille at night and saw all those TinTin characters on the wall! *O*!!! This is ten blocks from office but we still walked. However the menu in the Chelsea’s branch is very minimal and it’s all deli food (quiche and tarts). The one in Tribeca has full menu. There’re TinTin comics on the wall shelves to read.

This time it’s Japanese teahouse! Also around the little Tokyo corner. I got the Chef’s 3 course dessert specials. $16 with your choice of tea.

Macha Latte, very good but bad choice, sweet vs sweet… XP Chocolate Shouffle with mochi.

Red Bean icecream with Sake, and fancy bamboo box for cookies. ^^;;

Even though small space they still made an effort to build a traditional zen garden inside. 😀 I don’t think there’s such sweet + teahouse in LA.

Cafe Sabarsky (NYC: Uptown East)

//// By in 03: NYC, Favorite Food Entries

If I thought MoMA’s cafe was awesome, the museum cafe at Neue Gallerie totally blows me away! Of course it is more $$$. Even so there’s already a long queue outside the beautiful early 20th century bentwood room (with Adolf Loos & Otto Wagner’s designs). So I dined at the less pretty underground cafe but with the same menu that’s all Austrian/Germany flair (the gallery is Austrian/Germany centric).
DSC08553.jpgDSC08545.jpg
Chestnut soup “Vienneses Melange” $10 *O* , there’s a plum (?) inside, in heaven~ Viennese Sausage Salad with bell pepper in apple pear vinaigrette sauce $12 So delicious *Q*
DSC08547.jpgDSC08548.jpg
Miscalculated, soup+salad still made me totally bloated that I didn’t have room left for desserts! T__T They have a long list of nice Austrian sweets…

26 Seats (NYC: East Village)

Pate and the very fantastic Quail, it’s better than this.
DSC08537.jpgMy friend recommended me this tiny French restaurant on the East side called 26 Seat where she lives. Very valued. the main course are mostly $13 – $20. It is very dark and narrow, very intimate and friendly. The place was packed but luckily I got a table when I walked in (those in-between reservation gap). One minor drawback: this place only accept American Express. Thankfully I got enough cash on me.

Typhoon (NYC: East Village)

//// By in 03: NYC

I met a freelancer in the office and she showed me around her East Village neighborhood. There is sort of a “Little Tokyo” corner here and lots of authentic Japanese pubs and restaurants. We ate at this Izakaya style pub with her bf! There’s another popular crowd waiting outside Izakaya down the street that has a kitschy retro Japanese 60s theme but it’s more for tourist and non Japanese. Japanese people go to this one more.

Hokke (salty fish) and Fried Icecream. Very good and satisfying!
