Vanille de Patissarie (San Marino)

DSC05662.jpgDSC05665.jpgThere are oh-so-little choice for a nice comfy quiet place for chatting at night nearby where we live (we always settled for this other Taiwanese cafe but it’s too embarassingly populated by teenagers, though they make very good drink indeed, espeically milk tea!). Another option is the Taiwanese bakery+cafe where we went long time ago. The cakes still ranged from so-so to bad (the supposedly mousse is oily and heavy like cream!). A slight improvement: they finally got a basic French 101 cafe-compile soundtrack playing. ^^;;

Bean Sprout Cafe (Monrovia)

//// By in 02: Pasadena

DSC05654.jpgDSC05657.jpgDSC05658.jpg
I was sick since last week and had mysterious and scary “black tongue”, so determine to eat light and veggie. Dine here with Roberta, a Taiwanese Veggie cafe opened near Monrovia old town (strange location!), and I forgot its name again! (I’m feverish these days). She came here often as it’s ‘convinient’ but kept emphasized how bland and sometimes bad their food are. Now I see what she means. ^^;; My “Dai-lo” Noodle is okay but bland. Roberta’s Beef (fake) Noodle was okay and might be too loaded with meat-imitation flavor. Joan’s Spaghetti was unbelievably crap. Roberta said she once get scold by the waiters for leaving half of the plate unfinished, so Joan had to stuffed herself with that bad spaghetti….^^:;; Pity, the cafe is quite cute, it have the potential be a nice light eating place!

Vietnamese Restaurant (Monterey Park)

//// By in 01: San Gabriel

DSC05646.jpgDSC05641.jpgDSC05648.jpgSounds crazy but I forgot the name of the restaurant!!! O,O;;; (help here: it’s B1 floor at a plaza on Atlantic and Garvey, right next to a Shabu Shabu place). Unforgivable because I really enjoyed the food, one of the best and more authentic Vietnamese restaurants. Both the Grilled Pork set and Pork Ball & Spring roll Bun are fantastics. I love the Salty Lemon Drink. The location used to be a French restaurant opened by HKer, which of course was folded because of low response (it wasn’t good anyway). Parts of the French decor remains, but now they were added with kitschy red sofa seats and “disco-ball” ish dance floor, and a plasma TV screen playing “60s-que but without irony” contemporary Vietnamese singing shows. ^^;;

Molly’s Burger (Hollywood)

//// By in 08: Hollywood

IMG_0171.jpgIMG_0172.jpgIMG_0175.jpgThis cheap burger stand is a popular lunch hang out spot among co-workers. I suddenly craved greasy heavy junk food so I went along. They actually offers many other things beside burgers, there’s even Bukoki rice plate (the owners are koreans)! The Cheese burger combo is very value, only $4.25 and it also comes with fries and drink. The burger is fresh and juicy, not too greasy, the sauce is great. THe Fish Burger tastes way better than McD’s of course, but the cheese burger is definitely better. Now I know where to go when I need to fill my fattening unhealthyjunk food craving ^^;;;

Mousse Fantasy (Sawtelle)

//// By in 12: Sawtelle

DSC05618.jpgDSC05619.jpgDSC05624.jpg
When you ate too often at a certain area you’d start to notice the ones you’ve ignored prior. Mousse Fantasy was one. I used to come here only for their ATM machine, and they seems to be a cake place but I’ve tried them long time ago and it was no good. The interior was quite bare and ugly too. I finally tried their lunch. Lots of Japanese pastas. The Napolitan was very strong tasting (even for a salty bug like me) but I’m fond of it because it reminds me of…childhood! (Napolitan was a treat for me when I was young from a western restaurant down the street, and this taste just like it! *O*). More to my delights, it came with a fresh and nice organic salad (overheard the boss telling other customer about all the food he served are bought from farmer’s market). The set also came with a brick toast (yum!) and organic jam (yummy!) The latte is very good! I think they’re good (as long as not the cake, despite their name ^^;;), wanted to go back to try the other spaghetti.
