Cukrkavalimonada (Prague: Mala Strana)

//// By in Prague

We read about this lovely cafe from Wallpaper guide (which I rarely relied on but Prague is different). The name Cukrkavalimonada means: Sugar Coffee Lemonade. 😀

The interior is a pretty mix of traditional Czech patterns/ceiling with modern warm gray simplicity. The window decal cast interesting shadows onto the wall from sunlight. The menu offer simple dishes and they also baked their own pastries and cakes.

The drinks are Fresh fruit Juice and Homemade Elderflower Drink with Mint and Lemon. Their pasta are homemade. Tomato Shrimp Pasta. Oh my it is so good! That pasta is fresh and the sauce is very tasty.

Dill and Smoked Salmon Pasta with Cream Sauce. Really good~ Taste fresh, the dill and the sauce smell heavenly. We kept thinking about them rest of the day.

IMG_1237

Frittata with Bellpeppers and Czech Ham. A bit salty and over pan-fried. It’s only afterward I read that their egg dishes was so-so from another guidebook.

Apple cake with almonds and Strawberry Cheesecake. Simple but oh so good.

Somehow we mistook their opening hours in our notes…we thought they opened for lunch only. We could have come back for their dinner. 🙁

Sausage Stand (Prague: Wenceslas Square)

//// By in Prague

The Wenceslas Square was once a historically significant gathering/protest space in Prague. Now it seems to known more as the ‘Sausage square’. 😉 It is packed with hungry tourists and shoppers queuing at sausage stands. Apparently there were threats of banning them last year.

We passed by here quite a few times and always lured by the wonderful smell. We gave in eventually.

Sausage with sauerkraut
. We just point and click and didn’t know which sausage it is. It’s very good: hot, juicy, crispy on the outside and light texture in the side. Not too trashy tasting either. Though later I was told that the ‘white’ sausage is very good too.

Cremeria Milano (Prague: Jewish Quarter)

//// By in Prague

This popular gelato joint Cremeria Milano is recommended in many guidebooks as a destination (“The Best Ice cream in town”). It’s located at the ‘Rodeo Drive’ of Prague.

IMG_1289IMG_1288

So many flavors (photos only shows a portion).

IMG_1296IMG_1294

The chocolate was unbelievably rich yet not sweet. The fruity ones on the right was amazing!

IMG_1292IMG_1293

Amarena. Mango.

The gelato blow me away~ they have mouth watering cakes on the other side and are saids to be very good too (and a sit-in area for coffee + cakes).

BarBar (Prague: Mala Strana)

//// By in Prague

DSCN3509BarBar

We found another ‘dungeon’ bar+restaurant. You can get a glimpse of the restaurant underground from these tiny windows next to the sidewalk (I almost thought we had to crawl through that hole to get in for a split second).

BarBarBarBar

A strange character seems to rule the dungeon (its quaintness feels so Prague). Staropramen (made in Prague).

BarBarBarBar

These creatures resides in the TVs. Maybe its name is “BarBar”?

Their menu is HUGE and more of a generic Western European (Italian, French) with a touch of Czech flavors (esp. the use of apples and preserved fruits). Their pasta are all handmade.

BarBarBarBar

Pumpkin Soup with Yogurt and Goose Liver with bits of Rhubarb marinated in Raspberry Vinegar (very heavy and livery).

BarBar

Beef Carpaccio with Olives Tapenade. A bit too icy but it satisfied my iron thirst.

IMG_1139

Pancake with variety of cheese with apple, cranberries and sour cream. The pancake are basically = crepe. Very cheesy.

BarBar

Roasted Boned leg of chicken with fennel coulis.

BarBar

Roe-Deer saddle roasted with thyme with dried cranberries and homemade slivovice

BarBarBarBar

Baked Homemade Pasta with smoked Czech Ham (yum!). Icecream with warm fruits.

One thing I enjoyed Prague so much is how it seems like every building in the city is ‘customized’ by the owner, usually done with quirks and charms. Many windowsills are personally decorated with flowers and cute toys/miniature/paintings. The restaurants are the same: there are always quirky original artworks hang on the walls at most of the restaurants and bars we went to.

U Suteru (Prague: New Town)

//// By in Prague

After the first dinner at Klub Architektu we wanted to try more traditional Czech dishes. We found this old place at the New Town.

U SuteruU Suteru

The interior is also like a cellar. Krušovice beer. This is SO good! I have to say this is my favorite beer in Prague. I just fell in love with dark beer after this trip.

U Suteru

Garlic Soup, delicious! There’s a poached egg in the soup which further my friend’s impression of it tasting like instant noodle soup (no it doesn’t! ^^;;)

U Suteru

Beef Goulash Sutera style with eggs, onion, bacon and bread dumplings, 145 Czk. There are two different types of bread dumplings. Despite this being the signature central European dish, Joan said it didn’t leave her much impression other than it being ‘hearty’ (“just a regular beef stew~”). What impressed her more was how well it went with the beer.

U Suteru

Roasted Duck, bread dumplings, stewed red and white cabbage (Rotkraut and Sauerkraut). 145 Czk. Another signature Czech dish, it’s very delicious! The duck was deeply roasted with flavors, the meat was tender and moist. The stewed cabbages were very tasty too. Again I can’t stress enough how much the meal was enhanced by the beer.

U Suteru

Dessert: Plum Jam Bun (Cesky Kolac). Taste a bit like beignet~

Another hearty, tasty meal with very good beer~ (very cheap too!)
